TEXT

The breeding of birds for meat production is currently one of the most important livestock activities in our country. Poultry meat production has grown steadily over the last few decades and poultry farms have proliferated with different orientations and specializations within the sector.

Although the production of conventional system-raised chicken meat, known as "broiler", predominates, other forms of production and breeding of other species, such as turkey, or alternative species of more, must be taken into account. a recent occurrence, such as ostriches, without forgetting the holdings dedicated to breeding birds for the repopulation of the species whose final destination may be their consumption after hunting.

The growth and diversification of this livestock sector pose a situation for which a norm is needed to orient and channel production in an orderly manner and to ensure its proper production and health management. The development of this standard has been possible, to a large extent, due to the impetus given by the poultry meat sector itself, which has shown its need.

Law 8/2003 of 24 April on animal health provides, in Article 36 (1) and (2), that the holdings of animals newly installed, or the extension of existing animals, must comply with the minimum requirements for stocks, roads, roads and other holdings or installations which may represent a possible source or means of contagion of diseases, in addition to the prior authorisation of the authority competent and that the basic health conditions to be met by the animal holdings shall be The rules in force. The main purpose of this royal decree is to regulate this law and establish the rules for the management of poultry holdings for meat production.

It is also considered appropriate to adapt this regulation to the requirements laid down in Royal Decree 1888/2000 of 22 November laying down animal health conditions for trade Intra-Community imports of poultry and hatching eggs from third countries and Royal Decree 328/2003 of 14 March establishing and regulating the poultry health plan.

For their preparation, they have taken into account zootechnical criteria, animal health and welfare, environmental protection and improvement of the quality and health of the products. As regards the provisions of Annex I concerning animal welfare conditions, account has been taken of the possibility of its review, where appropriate, in the light of experience and, in any event, if the approval of the legislation is to be carried out. Community in the field makes it necessary

Likewise, in the elaboration of this royal decree, the autonomous communities and the most representative entities of the affected sectors have been consulted.

This royal decree is dictated by the habilitation contained in the fifth final provision of Law 8/2003, of April 24, of animal health.
