RUSSIAN FEDERATION FEDERAL LAW amending Article 97 of the RSFSR Code of Criminal Procedure adopted by the State Duma on 21 December 2001 Approved by the Federation Council on 26 December 2001 Article 1. Amend article 97, paragraph 2, of the RSFSR Code of Criminal Procedure (Bulletin of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR, 1960, N 40, art. 592; 1989, N 50, sect. OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION 4; 2001, N 11, sect. 1002), as follows: " Extension of detention beyond six months is permitted in exceptional cases and only to persons accused of serious and particularly serious crimes. The extension of this period of up to one year shall be carried out by the Procurator-General of the Russian Federation or by his or her deputy and up to one and a half years in respect of persons accused of particularly serious crimes by the Procurator-General of the Russian Federation.
