LAW No. 17 of 8 April 1994 for the extension or renewal of lease agreements on some residential areas published in PARLIAMENT ISSUING the OFFICIAL GAZETTE NR. 100 of 18 April 1994, the Romanian Parliament adopts this law.

Article 1 leases, regardless of owner, residential area with housing destination subject to normarii and hiring under law No. 5/1973, as well as those used by the social-cultural facilities and educational, political parties, trade unions and other non-governmental organizations, which are being enforced at the date of entry into force of this law, the law is extended for a period of five years, under the same conditions.

Article 2 the rental Contracts having as their object the same areas mentioned in article 3. 1, existing on 1 January 1988, and those completed and expired after January 1, 1988, shall renew in the same way, if the tenant occupying the dwelling space and currently subject to the lease.

Article 3 the provisions of art. 1 or 2 apply properly and those who own the State-owned garages.

Article 4 the provisions of art. 2 shall also apply in the case of disputes between landlords and tenants, the role of the courts, involving the evacuation of tenants for lack of money.

Article 5 the provisions of this law shall not apply in the case of disputes between landlord and tenant with the object of Exchange provided for in art. 64 of law No. 5/1973 and any rental contracts concluded with private landlords tenants after 1 January 1990.

Article 6 does not benefit from the provisions of art. 1-4 tenants who have improperly changed the destination space rented. In such cases, legal persons who exercise their right of ownership of the State shall be obliged to ask the courts terminated the lease and the eviction of the tenants.

Article 7 not later than 30 days after the publication of this law in the Official Gazette, the Government will develop and will forward it to the European Parliament the draft law on rents.
This law was adopted by the Chamber of deputies at its meeting of 3 February 1994, in compliance with the provisions of art. 74 para. (1) of the Constitution of Romania.
