Resolution Project No. 403 /XIII/1ª
By the guarantee of the navigability and safety of the fishing port of the
Pole of Varzim and the realization of a technical study that resolves
the structural problem of assorting
The fishing port of the Pole of Varzim, being one of the most important structures of
support for the very important fishing activity in the north of the country, takes on a particular
importance to the region. In fact, in the concelhos of the Pole of the Varzim and Vila do
Conde, and particularly in the Caxinas, resides one of the largest, otherwise the largest,
fishing community of the country that uses this fishing port. Thus, this port of fishing
of Varzim's Pole cannot have levels of assorting and disinvestment by
part of the Government that undermines their navigability and the safety of the
fishermen.
Serving in a particular way the fishing communities of the Pole of Varzim and
Village of the Count, this fishing port is not only laden with symbolism, but
also of a vital function for fishermen in the region, so it is important
ensure a follow-up and permanent intervention by the
Government.
Recently, due to non-deassoration due to the time of the fishing port of the
Polt of Varzim, from the responsibility of the previous PSD/CDS Government, the sand
has accumulated and created an authentic beach within the fishing port. To this joined the
accumulation of a gigantic sandbank, which seriously threatened the
vessels that use this fishing port. Accumulation sand has created serious
struggles with fishing activity, forcing several days of closure of the port

of fishing and had implications in the city itself, as it prevented the passage of the
rainwater, prompting flooding in the center of the city of Varzim's Pophy.
Not being an exclusive problem of the fishing port of the Pole of Varzim, the truth is
that the levels of assorting in this fishing port have become unsustainable.
After a lot of struggle, attention calls, denunciations and discussion of the Project of
CFP resolution on this matter, the PSD/CDS Government has been forced to move forward with the
dredging.
It turns out that reality has been demonstrating that, in the matter of assorting,
punctual interventions do not solve the problem. The proof of this is the situation in the Pole
from Varzim where only if they promote de-assorting operations when the
problem already jeopardizes the safety of fishermen. Hence, the CFP has advocated for
existence of planning in this matter, in particular through the definition of a
national dredging plan, which promotes navigability in bar safety and
ports of fishing, in a medium / long term perspetive.
On the other hand, the CFP was a pioneer in placing the need to promote a study
that, involving the scientific community and the fishing community, find the
technical solutions to mitigate the effect of assorting that, systematically, if
checks in this fishing port.
Thus, the CFP advocates that, in addition to a planned and proper action of
deassorting of the fishing port of the Póvoa de Varzim, the Government shall promote the
realization of a study to find, if possible, technical solutions capable of
prevent, or at least mitigate, this structural problem of the chronic assorting of the
fishing port of the Pole of Varzim.
