Proposal for Resolution No 2/XII
The European Union and its Member States, on the one hand , and the Republic of Korea, by
another, with a view to the creation of a free trade area of goods, services and
establishment, signed in Brussels, October 6, 2010 , the Trade Agreement
Free;
The present Agreement , negotiated in parallel with a Framework Agreement, constitutes a new
framework for the relationship between the European Union and the Republic of Korea and
a significant strengthening of bilateral relations;
This Agreement was negotiated in accordance with the objectives set out in the
Communication from the European Commission "Global Europe-Compete at the world level", which
re-examined the contribution of the European Union's trade policy to the strategy
European growth and employment;
This Free Trade Agreement for its comprehensive and provides for liberalization
progressive and reciprocal of trade in goods and services, as well as rules in matter
general of trade;
The present Agreement is the most ambitious ever negotiated by the European Union
contemplating areas not covered by previously concluded agreements.

CHAIR OF THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS
Under the terms of the paragraph d) of Article 197 (1) of the Constitution, the Government presents to the
Assembly of the Republic the following motion for a resolution:
To approve the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and its Member States,
on the one hand, and the Republic of Korea, on the other hand, signed in Brussels, on October 6,
2010, including Annexes 1 a to 15 and Protocols 1 a to 3, the text of which in the authenticated version
in Portuguese language, it publishes in annex.
