Proposal for Resolution No. 9/XI/1.
Attending to the importance of the United Nations Agriculture Organization and
Food (FAO) in the fight against world poverty and famine, Portugal celebrated a
agreement with this Organization that aims to establish an Information Office in Lisbon.
The creation of the office aims to strengthen the capacity to fight hunger and poverty, to the
level of technical cooperation and mutual cooperation. It aims to still facilitate and improve the exchange
of information and knowledge among the Member States of the Community of Countries of
Portuguese Language (CPLP) in the support and strengthening of your technical cooperation in this area
primordial from combating hunger and poverty.
The FAO Information Office aims to still familiarise public opinion with the
work of this Organization sensitizing it to the issue of world hunger.
The establishment of an office of the United Nations Agriculture Organization
and Food in Lisbon is privileging Portugal for locating in its territory a focus of
diffusion and sharing of information in the fight against world poverty and hunger.
Thus:
Under the terms of the paragraph d) of Article 197 (1) of the Constitution, the Government presents to the
Assembly of the Republic the following motion for a resolution:

Approve the Agreement between the Portuguese Republic and the United Nations Organization for the
Agriculture and Food Relative to the Establishment of an Information Office
of the Organisation in Lisbon, signed in Lisbon, on July 25, 2008, the text of which
authenticated versions in the Portuguese and English languages, it publishes in attachment.
