Considering that Portugal is a party to the Convention on the Prohibition of Development,
Production, Storage and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction,
approved for ratification by the Resolution of the Assembly of the Republic No 25-A/96,
published in I Series-A of the Journal of the Republic n. 169, of July 23, and ratified by the
Decree of the President of the Republic No 25-C/96 of July 23;
Considering that the said Convention provides, in Article VIII, that the Organization for
The Prohibition of Chemical Weapons is endowed with legal personality and the Organization and the
your officials shall enjoy, in the territory of the States Parties of the privileges and immunities
necessary for the exercise of their duties;
Considering that the Convention provides that such privileges and immunities should be
defined in agreements between the Organization and the States Parties;
Thus:
Under the terms of the paragraph d) of Article 197 (1) of the Constitution, the Government presents to the
Assembly of the Republic the following motion for a resolution:
Approve the Agreement between the Portuguese Republic and the Organisation for the Prohibition of the
Chemical Weapons on the Privileges and Immunities of the Organization for the Prohibition of the
Chemical Weapons, signed in The Hague on July 5, 2001, the text of which in the version
authenticated in English language and respective translation in Portuguese language if published in
attachment.
