Taking conscience of insuficià references identified in this area, the XVII constitutional Government promoted the Constitution of a working group for Sexual education (5.), made up of recognized experts and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Daniel Sampaio; the result of the work of this group, focused on the lifetime achievement of sexual education in schools in Portugal, was recently brought to public. Matter should be borne in mind that the numbers of infected of HIV/AIDS in Portugal (with over 30000 Portuguese infected, of which 15% with less than 25 years), the high rate of pregnancy in adolescence, and social behaviors ³ discriminatà rivers in relation to gender and sexual orientation, are sufficiently worrisome to warrant new measures to ensure an effective application of sexual education in middle school. In fact, these data, verified against the latest study conducted by the Association for Family planning lia (APF) about the sexual education of the young Portuguese, and which reveals the difficulties of them to discuss the theme, with parents (more than 50% never talked with his father about sexuality, and more than 30% never spoke with the mother) , and in which a large majority assumes have already had sexual relationship µ s, make imperative a complementary role of the school in matter of sexual education, since the Portuguese and European young people spend about two third of the day in school. Article 1, paragraph 3. Modalities. In basic education, sexual education is part of the à ¢ scope of education to health, in the curricular areas not disciplinary. 2. Article 4. º curricular content in basic education 1. The sexual education in basic education shall include the following content to the curriculum 4.  º year of schooling: a) understanding of body; (b)) the body in harmony with nature; c) Notion of family read; d) differences between boys and girls; e) protection of the body and understanding the limits. 2. The sexual education in basic education shall include the following curricular content in 5 ' and 6 ' th years: a) biological and emotional ³ Aspects of puberty; (b)) the body in transformation; c) secondary sexual Characters; d) diversity and tolerance; and) sexuality and gender; f) human reproduction and growth; g) Contracepà and family planning. 3. The sexual education in basic education shall include the following curricular content between 7 and 9.  º year of schooling: a) understanding of the General Physiology of human reproduction; b) understanding of the menstrual cycle and ovulatà ³ River;



6 c) understanding of sexuality as one of the most sensà available components of the human person, in the context of a life project that integrates values and an ethics dimension; d) understanding of the prevalence, use and accessibility of contraceptive methods and meet, briefly, the mechanisms of action and tolerance; and) understanding of epidemiology and prevalence of the main µ s infection sexually transmitted in Portugal and in the world, in particular HIV/AIDS and the HPV/SEE human papilloma viruses, their aftermath and methods of prevention; f) knowledge of the rates and national maternity trends in General and adolescence in particular and understand its meaning; g) knowledge of the rates and trends of interruption of µ s volunteer of pregnancy and its meaning; h) understanding of the notion of parenting in the context of a sexual and reproductive health healthy and responsible; I) knowledge of the legislation and the services which may come in à ¢ scope of sexual and reproductive health. 4. The curriculum in content in neas) and the previous number) will have to be addressed, preferably in 7.  º and 8.  º years. 5. The content provided in the curriculum in nea f) and (g)) of the n. º 3 will have to be addressed, preferably in 8. ° and 9.  º years.





5. Article 7 ° curricular content in secondary education Without prejuà zo for a new approach to content provided for basic education, sexual education in secondary education shall include the following: curriculum content) knowledge reinforcement of the physiology of reproduction and sexuality; b) reinforcement of knowledge on contracepÃ; c) reinforcement of safe and informed choices in the field of sexuality; d) respect for equality between people regardless of gender and/or sexual orientation; e) understanding of the issues µ s on is sexual violence and gender, as well as the issues µ is subjects of sexuality and µ s loving relationship; f) knowledge of the legislation and the services which may come in à ¢ scope of sexual and reproductive health.
