Attending to which the Portuguese Republic is Party to the United Nations Convention on

the Law of the Sea of December 10, 1982;

Considering that the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea establishes the

International Court of the Law of the Sea;

Recognizing that the Court should enjoy the legal powers, privileges and the

immunities necessary for the exercise of its functions.

Thus:

Under the terms of the paragraph d) of Article 197 (1) of the Constitution, the Government presents to the

Assembly of the Republic the following proposal for a Resolution:

To approve the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the International Court of Law of the

Sea, adopted in New York, on May 23, 1997, the text of which, in the authenticated version

in the English language, as well as the respective translation for Portuguese language, are published in

attachment.
