DRAFT LAW NO. 701 /X/4.

(ELEVATION OF THE VALONGO FREGUESIA OF THE VOUGA, IN THE EGUEDA COUNTY, Á CATEGORY OF VILLA)

Justification note I-Historic summary Valongo of the Vouga is a populated area long before the twelfth century. Effectively, already documents from the 9th to the XI refer to toponyms that confirm the occupation of these lands of "Valle Longum" and "Foramontans" (Valongo and Fermentons). In 897 Valongo was the property of Gondesindo Eria, son of D. Ero c.c. D. Enderquina Pala (1º. of this name) and of D. Adosinda, who donated her to S. Salvador de Lavra, where her daughter Adosinda was a nun. On October 29, 1101, D. Ximena Forjaz, married to João Gondesindes, purchased a part of the inheritance of Diogo Peres Matrona: "Villas de Valle Longum, Melares and Lanieses" (today Lanheses). In 1110 Ximena Forjaz, donates Valongo from the Vouga to the Sé de Coimbra. In the present territory of the Valongo freguesia of the Vouga, they existed in times, two concelhos, meanwhile already extinct:
