Elevation of the Povoation of A-Dos-Francs to Villa

Exhibition of reasons

A-of-the-Francs situates 17 Kms of Queen's Caldas, the south-west of the county and is

limited to the north by the freguesias of S. Gregory of Fanadia and Vidais belonging to the Concelho

of Queen's Caldas and freguesia of A-of-Black belonging to the Concelho of Óbidos. The South

is limited by the freguesia of the Painting belonging to the Concelho of the Cadaval. To This is limited

by the freguesia of the Landal and the West by the freguesia of the Carvalhal belonging to the concelho of the

Bombarral. The freguesia encompasses the clusters of Casal Sobreiro, Green Village of Matos,

Salgueirinha, Marais de Strd Helena, Couples of the Palmeira, Couples of the Bica, Casal Pinheiro, Casais

of the Aramenha, Couples of the Sesmarias, Couples Gaiolas, Santa Susana, Broeiras and Carons.

Historical Summary

The-of-the-Francs has its origin in the twelfth century. According to the documents, this was a

of the lands given as commendation by D. Afonso Henriques to the Frankish crusaders who by return

of 1140 helped him in the conquest of Portugal. It is this, too, the explanation for the name of the

freguesia. That land that was donated to them would be granted as that of the Francs. The

french would stay connected to the history of this land. So it happened, with the encroachments

napoleonic commanded by Junot. The-of-the-Francs belonged to the concelain of Óbidos, but the

from the foundation of the hospital of the terms, the Queen's Caldas developed a lot and

have annexed diverse territories, one of which A-of-Francs. In the nineteenth century, this freguesia

played a key role in the movement and communications between people. Around here

passed, on the road Azambuja, the old diligence connecting Caldas from Queen to Lisbon, where

if they were to transport almost all the bathers who from Lisbon were going to treat themselves on the Caldas. With the

construction of the West Railway, decayed the old due diligence. Remains of that time the house

of the change of cattle, in the suitcase-laid in the Carons, vast building of excellent construction.

Area and number of inhabitants

The Freguesia of A-of-Francs has a total area of 19.13 Km2 where they reside

approximately 1914 inhabitants. In economic terms, agriculture is the main

occupation of A-of-Francs. The excellent grounds provided, today as yesterday, the

amanho of the lands. Existing, however, some establishments of commerce and services.

Heritage

The patrimonial values of A-of-Francs include still the parish church of S.

Silvestre. Refers to the " Artistic Inventory of Portugal ": temple without any fetion

architectural to mention. Interiorly does not have any adorn or artistic species that

deserve citation. It was calculated that it would have belonged to this ermida, the image of S. Silvestre,

Gothic sculpture, of wood, which now holds itself in the Church of Our Lady of the Pole of the

Queen's broilers.

 Two kindergartens. School of Music Society of Musical Instruction of A-dos-

Francs. Cultural Association of Carons. Two posts of Health. Pharmacy with more

of 150 years. Center of Day.

Conclusion

By the previously exposed it is quite patent that the Povoation of A-of-the-Francs brings everyone together

the legally required requirements, so that the elevation to the category of Vila is realized.

In the face of the exposed, the signatory Deputies understand that they are meeting the

requirements set out in Article 2, combined with the provisions of Article 14 of Law No 11/82,

of June 2, for the Povoation of A-of-Francs to be elevated to the category of Vila. In these

terms, considering that the Povoation of A-of-the-Francs fulfils the stipulated, the Deputies

below signed from the CDS-PP Parliamentary Group present, under the provisions

applicable constitutional and regimental, the following draft law:

Single article

The Settlement of A-of-the-Francs in the Queen's Caldas concelho, is elevated to the category of

Village.
