Portugal Participation Report
in the European Construction Process
22. Year-2007
Appreciating the participation of Portugal in the process of the construction of the European Union
during the year 2007, the Assembly of the Republic resolves:
1-Analyze the report provided for in Article 5 (3) of Law No 43/2006 of 25 of
August, in the context of the process of consultation and exchange of information between the
Government and the Assembly of the Republic;
2-reaffirm the understanding that the Government's report cited above should
underscore the political component of Portugal's participation in the EU;
3-Mark that the participation of Portugal in the construction of the European Union, in the
second half of 2007, was marked by the Portuguese Presidency of the
EU Council, whose priorities have been developed under the motto " A Union
stronger for a better world ";
4-Underline the success achieved by the Portuguese Presidency, in particular in what if
refers to the agreement that, following the holding of a Conference
Intergovernmental (IGC), resulted in the signing of the Treaty of Lisbon, already
ratified by Portugal;
5-Salient the achievement of the EU-Brazil Summit and the II EU-Africa Summit Meeting, beyond
of the EU-Ukraine Summits, EU-Russia, EU-China, EU-India and the EU-ASEAN;
6-Highlight the preparation of the new cycle of the Lisbon Strategy (2008-2010) with the
objective to preserve the stability necessary to consolidate the results;

7-Welcome with the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union on the day 1
of January 2007;
8-Sauding the accession of Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania,
Malta, the Czech Republic and Poland to the Schengen Area, on December 21-
2007;
9-Salient the continuation of the negotiations regarding the preparation of the accession of the
Croatia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey;
10-Underline that the appreciation of this report releases the effort, the input and the
broad consensus among the political forces represented in the Assembly of the
Republic as to the integration of Portugal into the European Union, without prejudice to the
divergences as to the priorities and guidelines followed in this process.
