Draft Law No 382 /X

Preamble
Portuguese volunteer firefighters develop their action, in Portugal there are
more than 600 years.
They were born out of the need for fire protection in Lisbon, and throughout
of the centuries extended their action all over the national territory, passing from the strand
of firefighting for civil protection, support for populations against the
natural calamities, floods, fires, road accidents, sudden diseases and,
later, in the transport of patients in ambulance, translating a diversification and
growth of relief actions entrusted to firefighters, without which the protection of the
populations would not be possible.
The Portuguese Fire League, the Confederation of Fire Firefighters of Portugal,
conGreek, today, more than 480 Associations and Bodies of Firefighters on the Continent and the

entrusted to firefighters, with their services being widely recognized by the population
Portuguese.
