PARLIAMENT Commission of European Affairs 1 draft resolution No. 151/X Report of Portugal's participation in the process of European integration 20 Year-2005 Appreciating the participation of Portugal in the construction process of the European Union during the year 2005, the Assembly of the Republic resolves: 1 – Analyze the report provided for in paragraph 3 of article 2 of law No. 20/94 , June 15, as part of regular consultation and exchange of information between the Assembly of the Republic and the Government of the Portuguese Republic, as provided for in paragraph 2 of article 1 of the same law and paragraph 3 of article 5 of Law 43/2006 of 25 August;

2-Reaffirm the understanding, previously expressed in various resolutions, that the above-mentioned Government report should have an essentially political or, find at least relieve the political interpretation of the various components;

3-Highlight that the year 2005 was an important year for the European Union and its institutions following the entry of 10 new Member States, demonstrating the absorption capacity of the Union as an area of Democracy and security.

4-point out that in 2005, commemorates the 20th anniversary of the entry of Portugal into the European Union and say that our participation has been very positive in the most diverse areas of the European construction process, denoting a high consensus among the various political forces in Portugal;


ASSEMBLY of the REPUBLIC 2 5 European Affairs Commission – Underline the efforts within the European Union to promote a debate on the future of Europe in the wake of the difficulties raised by the results of the referendums on the Constitutional Treaty in France and the Netherlands. This debate is a sign of democratic culture and may constitute as a statement of a "European spirit" and contribute to the deepening of the European integration process;

6-Register the efforts made by the Union and applicant States, in terms of enlargement to new members, namely, with regard to Bulgaria and Romania and with regard to the preparation of the processes, which could lead to the entry of Croatia, the former Republic of Macedonia and Turkey;

7 – See the relaunch of the Lisbon strategy by the European Council of March 2005, with a focus on the objectives of growth and employment and the agreement on the financial perspectives for 2007-2013 which allows you to continue to combat the inequalities in the European space through cohesion policy.

8-point out that the assessment of this report relates to the effort, the contribution and the broad consensus between the political forces represented in Parliament as to the integration of Portugal in the European Union, without prejudice to the different assessment of priorities and guidelines followed in this process.
