Law of 16 May 2002, holding municipal re-division in Zcentury-Vlaanderen

We Beatrix, at the grace of God, Queen of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, etc. etc. etc.

All of them, who will see or hear these, saluut! do know:

In this regard, we have taken the view that it is desirable to change the municipal structure in Zcentury-Flanders.

In this way, we, the Council of State, and with the mean consultations of the States-General, have been well-regarded and understood to be right and to be understood by the following:

Paragraph 1. Abolition and establishment of municipalities

As from the date of reclassification, the following municipalities shall be abolished:

• Axel

• Dogfish

• Casst

• Eastern burg

• Sas van Gent

• Sluis-Aardenburg

• Terneuzen

• 1 The following new municipalities are hereby established as from the date of reclassification:

  • Casst

  • Lock

  • Terneuzen

• 2 In Table 1, the area of each of the municipalities to be removed is indicated by the territory of each of the new municipalities, with the proviso that the boundaries of the new municipality are to run as indicated in the map annexed to this Act.

In Table 2, the municipalities to be removed for the new municipality are designated for the application of the Article 36 of the General Rules Act reclassification , in connection with the application of the instructions and regulations referred to in that Article.

In Table 3, for the municipalities to be removed, the new municipalities are designated for the application of the following provisions of the General Rules Reclassification Act :

• a. Article 39, second paragraph , in connection with the levying and recovery of municipal taxes;

• b. Article 41, third paragraph , in relation to participation in common schemes;

• c. Article 45, second paragraph , in connection with the transition from the supply of drinking water, electricity and gas.

• 1 For the new municipalities, set by this law, interim council elections are as intended. Article 52, second paragraph, part (a) of the General Rules of Reorder Law -

• 2 With the preparation of the by-elections for the new municipalities, the municipalities to be charged will be taxed according to the Article 3 associated table.

This Law shall enter into force on a date to be determined by Royal Decree.

Burdens and orders that it will be placed in the Official Gazette, and that all ministries, authorities, colleges and officials who so concern will keep their hands on the precise execution.
