BE IT enacted by the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong with the advice and consent of the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: short title 1. This Act may be cited as the Act the Malaysian currency (Ringgit) 1975.
Amendment 2. (1) Bank of Malaysia Act 1958 [Act 519] hereby amended — (a) by replacing the section 18 of the Act with section 18 the following new Units of currency — "18. (1) The unit of currency in Malaysia shall be the ringgit currency, which shall be divided into one hundred cent. (2) Upon the coming into force of this section, every contract, sale, payment, bill, note, instrument and security for money and every transaction, dealing, matter and thing whatsoever relating to money or involving the payment of, or the liability to pay any money which, but for this subsection would have been deemed to be 6 laws of Malaysia ACT 160 made, be binding, consumer, into, done and limits for, in and in relation to Malaysian dollars shall be deemed instead to be made, and be, consumer, into, done and limits for, in and in relation to the ringgit. ";
(b) by substituting for the word "Malaysian dollars", "Malaysian dollars", "dollars" and "dollars" in wherever there is it with the word "dollars"; and (c) by substituting for the word "cents" in wherever there is it the word "cents".
(2) when this section comes into operation, all references in any written law on the Malaysian dollar and cent shall be respectively construed as dollars and cents. Amendment 3. Section 3 of the Interpretation Act 1948 and 1967 [Act 388] hereby amended — (a) by deleting the definition of "dollars" and "cent";
(b) by inserting the definition of "ringgit" follows immediately after the definition of "residency" — ' "ringgit" means a ringgit in the currency of Malaysia; '; and (c) by inserting the definition of "sen" follows immediately after the definition of "sell" — ' "sen" means a sen in the currency of Malaysia; '.
