BE IT enacted by the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong with the advice and consent of the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: short title and commencement 1. This Act may be cited as the Kuala Lumpur City Act 1971.
Changes in title 2. A corporation established under the municipal Ordinance of the Straits Settlements [N.S. Chapter 133] and named "Municipal Capital Kuala Lumpur" and administered under federal capital Act 1960 [Act 190] should be named "City" or "the City of Kuala Lumpur".
Exclude the rights and obligations of the Commissioner and others 3. (1) start the currency of this Act shall not affect the capital Commissioner or any other person appointed or named with valid, as the case may be, at the start date of the currency Act to hold office or other position and Commissioner with effect from that date the Commissioner or other person who respectively hold the posts shall have and 059b.fm Page 5 Friday , March 31, 2006 6:37 PM 6 laws of Malaysia ACT 59 exercise of all rights, duties, powers and privileges formerly belonged to any of the posts under the Federal Capital Act 1960 or any other written law or any by-law made thereunder as if this Act was not made.
(2) there is nothing in this Act shall affect the validity or effect of any action, proceeding, transfer of rights, transfer of title, deed, arrangement or any kind of Act of bona fide undertaken, made or done before this Act comes into operation by or against or in the name of or on behalf of the municipality of the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.
Amendment to Title 4. Unless there is something wrong in the subject or context otherwise, in every law — (a) a reference to "Township of the capital city of Kuala Lumpur" shall be construed as a reference to "the city" or "the City of Kuala Lumpur";
(b) a reference to "Municipal Office" or on "Office of the Commissioner" shall be construed as a reference to "City Hall" or "the City Hall";
(c) a reference to "Township" in relation to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur is to be construed as a reference to "the city" or "City"; and (d) a reference to "Commissioner of the capital city of Kuala Lumpur" shall be construed as a reference to "Dato Bandar Kuala Lumpur" or "the Commissioner of the City of Kuala Lumpur".
Effective federal capital Act 1960 5. Save as otherwise provided earlier than this, there is nothing in this Act shall affect the effective federal capital Act 1960.
