The Republic of Latvia Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 172 in 2001 Riga, 17 April (pr. II. categories of seed 2. Seed shall be divided into the following categories: 2.1. random seed (IR);
2.2. pre-basic seed (PB);
2.3. basic seed (B);
2.4. certified seed (C);
2.5. commercial seed (K).
3. Random seed (IR) is a small quantity of seed, ensuring preservation of characteristics for the variety to be several generations. 6.3. for the production of seed or other purposes.
7. Rape, Brassica juncea in mustard, black and white, dioecious hemp, mustard, caraway, sunflower and poppy seeds is just one generation (C1).

10. Certified seed of the first generation (C) are seeds which: 10.1 produced directly from basic seed (B) (where the breeder or maintainer of the variety, also from pre-basic seed-(PB));
10.2. these provisions meet the certified seed (C);
10.3. for certified seed, second generation (C2) production or for other purposes;
10.4. throughout the seed production and preparation period is the national plant protection service control.
11. certified seed, second generation (C2) is a seed: 11.1. grown directly from certified seed of the first generation (Cl) (if the breeder or maintainer of the variety wishes — from basic seed (B) or directly from pre-basic seed (PB));
11.2. complies with those rules for certified seed (C);
11.3. for certified seed of the third generation (C3) or for other purposes;
11.4. throughout the seed production and preparation period is the national plant protection service control.
12. The third generation certified seed (C3) is the seed that: 12.1 grown directly from certified seed of the second generation (C2) (if the breeder or maintainer of the variety, also from certified seed of the first generation (Cl), the basic seed (B) or directly from pre-basic seed (PB));
12.2. these provisions meet the certified seed (C);
12.3. is not intended solely for the future.
13.
