The Republic of Latvia Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 369 Riga, 14 august 2001 (pr. No 38 4) amendments to the Cabinet of Ministers of February 8, 2000 regulations No. 46 "food labelling regulations" Issued under the supervision of the food chain article 13 of the law of the third part and the consumer protection law to do the article 21 of the Cabinet of Ministers of February 8, 2000 regulations No. 46 "food labelling rules" (Latvian journal, 2000, 44./46.nr.) the following amendments: 1. Make the following paragraph 23: "23. flavourings shall be indicated by the word" flavouring "or by the name of flavourings whether giving a description of the flavouring. "
2. Make the following paragraph 51: "51.   Food products and food ingredients (except this rule 51.1 points), wholly or partially produced from genetically modified organisms, information on the label of genetically changed ingredients (except food products used in flavourings). The following information on food products or food ingredients may not specify that: 51.1. no food items consisting of a single ingredient, not separately assessed, no food ingredient does not contain the genetic modification resulting in protein or DNA;
51.2. no food items consisting of a single ingredient, not separately assessed no groceries does not contain more than 1% of the material derived from the genetically modified organisms if their presence in foods or food items in random ingredients. Genetically modified organisms shall be deemed accidental, if the manufacturer, Packager or importer prove that has taken appropriate measures to avoid the introduction of genetically modified organisms in food products or food ingredients. "
3. Supplement with 51.1 points as follows: "If foodstuffs contain 51.1 food additives or flavourings used in foodstuffs, which are genetically modified organisms, genetically modified organisms or have produced foodstuffs the labelling shall provide information on: 51.11. food product characteristics (composition, nutritional value or nutritional effects, the effects of nutrients and food additive or a flavouring intended use type), which makes food additives or flavourings, different from the traditionally used food additives and flavourings (scientific assessment based on the analysis of existing data, can demonstrate that the food additives and flavouring characteristics are different compared with the traditionally used food additives or flavourings, in view of the characteristics of the natural limits of variation). If a food additive or a flavouring contains genetic modification into a protein or DNA, it is considered different from the traditionally used food additives or flavourings;
51.12. materials the presence of food additives or flavourings of material which is not traditionally used in food additives or flavourings and which may affect the health of specific consumer or cause ethical objection. "
4. Replace paragraph 52 and 54, the words "produced from genetically modified products" with the words "produced from genetically modified (s) ...".
5. Replace paragraph 53, the words ' contains ... produced from genetically modified products "with the words" contains ... produced from genetically modified (s) ... ".
