Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 203, Riga, 28 May 2002 (pr. No 22, § 18) meat and meat products labelling rules Issued in accordance with the law of the food chain monitoring 13. the third paragraph of article i. General questions 1. determines the requirements for fresh meat (carcases, parts of carcases, by-products), minced meat, meat preparations and meat products (output) the health marking requirements home equidae fresh meat and beef and veal labelling (hereinafter referred to as the cattle) fresh meat, minced meat and special markings.

II. the health marking requirements 6. health marking shall be marked only the products according to the law or the requirements of a recognized for producing, food and veterinary service of the existing food company. 10.3. in at least two locations on each side of the carcase, on the shoulder or on the external surface of the thighs, kid, lamb and pig carcases.
11. Rabbit and rabbit carcasses shall be marked by stamping a health mark on each side of the carcase, on the shoulder in two places and the external surface of the thighs, or printing the health mark on packaging of the carcase.
12. Bird carcases shall be marked by printing the health mark on packaging.
13. Home of equidae, bovine and porcine liver, intended for export to the European Union or the European economic area, highlights, health marking by branding.
14. Kautprodukt, other than those mentioned in these regulations 10, 11, 12 and 13, shall be marked directly on the surface or, if this is not possible, the health mark shall be indicated on the label affixed to the wrapping or packaging or printed on the packaging.
15. A split of fresh meat, minced meat, meat preparations and meat products marked by printing the health mark on packaging.
16. The health mark may be printed on the packaging of the product, if the product is not: 16.1 packed;
16.2. the product is packaged, but it is sold without packaging;
16.3. packed birds, rabbits, hares, or the carcass divided into fresh meat is stored or transported on several occasions not to use korodējošo containers.
17. The health mark on packaging or packaging (indicated on the label or printed form), follow one of the following conditions: 17.1. health marking so placed that when the wrapper or packaging, the labelling would be damaged or destroyed;
17.2. wrapping or packaging may not be reused after opening.
18. Stamping kautprodukt directly on the surface, uses the following colours: 18.1. E 155 Brown HT;
18.2. E 133 brilliant FCF;
18.3.129 allura red AC (E);
18.4. E 133 brilliant FCF and E 129 allura red AC.
19. According to the type of production concerned and the food company, whose products obtained or produced, the health mark is a definite form.
20. With the oval health mark shall be marked: 20.1. bovine (including Buffalo and bizoņ species), sheep, goats, pigs, equidae, poultry houses, farms and wild animals, fresh meat and rabbit from the derived meat products and meat preparations (other than products derived from equidae for meat House), where the products obtained or produced in the food business, you are permitted to distribute its products outside Latvia;
20.2. of bovine, goat, sheep and pig meat production of minced meat, if the products in question produced a food company that is authorized to distribute its products outside of Latvia.
21. the regular Pentagon shapes the health mark shall be marked fresh wild game meat products concerned manufactured food company, which is authorized to distribute its products outside of Latvia.
22. With the rectangle shapes the health mark shall be marked: 22.1. fresh meat, minced meat, meat preparations and meat products obtained or manufactured from all species of animals, and the products obtained or produced in the food business, you are permitted to distribute its products only in the territory of Latvia;
22.2. minced meat, if it is produced from the species of animal for which the fresh meat is not referred to in this rule 20.2.
23. If a production chain occurs the food company, which does not have the right to use these rules 20 and 21 on the form referred to the health mark, in subsequent production chain use only rectangular health mark.
24. Fresh meat for use in a specific animal disease-related restrictions shall be marked with the health mark that cross the two streaks that health mark in the middle of four right angles.
25. Fresh pig meat from male animals of a carcase weight in excess of 80 kilograms, shall be marked with the health mark that cross the two longitudinal axis parallel streaks, which are located at least 1 cm away from each other and equidistant from the centre line of health marking.
26. The health mark shall indicate: 26.1. name or abbreviation of the country and the approval number of the food business;
26.2. the abbreviation ' EEC ' (European Economic Community), and the regular Pentagon oval shapes the health mark.
27. the oval health mark the information onto the following: 27.1. the first option: top-state 27.1.1. name;
27.1.2. by the middle of the food — the approval number of the establishment;
27.1.3. bottom — the abbreviation ' EEC ';
27.2. the second variant: 27.2.1. — at the top of the country name abbreviation and food the approval number of the establishment;
27.2.2. bottom — the abbreviation ' EEC '.
28. the oval health mark which highlights the fresh poultry and farm raised game meats, the information placed in accordance with the provisions of section 27.1..
29. the regular Pentagon shapes the health marking of information onto the following: 29.1. top-state name or abbreviation;
29.2. the middle of the food — the approval number of the establishment;
3. at the bottom, the abbreviation ' EEC ' or the name of the country of origin, if the product's place of origin is not a Member State of the European Union.
30. A rectangular label of health information onto the following: 30.1.-at the top of the country name or abbreviation;
30.2. — food at the bottom of the approval number of the establishment.
31. If the production wrapped and packaged in a slaughterhouse, the health mark may indicate the approval number of the slaughterhouse. Distributions of health mark for fresh meat in the food company's recognition that the meat is divided.
32. If the food company products packed in reusable packaging placed on the food company's health, but the label on the packaging keeps its food company health mark, where the production wrapped.
33. the health marking information is clearly legible, comprehensible and indelible.
34. the health marking on kautprodukt or on the surface of the wrapping or packaging, which is not intended for distribution to retail, is at least 6.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm in length, and the height of the letters at least 0.8 cm, the height of the digits, at least 1 cm. 35. fresh poultry, rabbit and Hare meat and by-products, the health mark may, in the height of the letters and numbers shall be at least 0.2 cm. 36. Farms wild ungulate carcasses as well as the farm-raised wild animals distributed health marking of fresh meat (if it is not intended for distribution to retail) on the container or wrapper letter height is at least 0.8 cm, but digital, at least 1.1 cm.
 
 
III. requirements for home for the labelling of the meat of equidae 37. in addition to these terms the requirements laid down in chapter II of the House of kautprodukt of the equidae shall be marked with a square mark that represents the letter "Z".

38. The provisions referred to in paragraph 37 of the labelling on the surface or on the kautprodukt of the wrapping or packaging, which is not intended for distribution to retail, is at least 4.5 cm long and 4.5 cm wide, the letter "Z" in it, at least 3 cm.
 
 
IV. specific labelling requirements With special marking 39. beef marked tie-on label carcase, carcass half or quarter. Subdivided into meat, minced meat and other kautprodukt in the packaging or the label shall provide written information at the point of sale.
40. On the beef special marking also applies this rule 6, 16, 17 and in paragraph 33.
41. fresh beef and minced beef in the special label: 25.5. identification number of the individual animal, which granted the cabinet order;
41.2. the country in which the animal was born;
41.3. country or countries in which the animal is grown;
25.7. country and food companies (approval number), in which the animal was slaughtered, appropriate information starting with the words "animal knockout: ... “;
25.8. country and food companies (approval number), in which the meat distributed relevant information starting with the words "meat split: ... “;
25.8. minced beef-country and food companies (approval number), in which the meat is ground, the appropriate information starting with the words "produced: ... “;
25.9. date on which the animal was slaughtered and the meat distributed or ground.
42. If this rule 41.2., 41.3. and 25.7. operations referred to in point made in one country, the labelling shall indicate the appropriate country and the approval number of the slaughterhouse: "origin: (name of the country, the food company's approval number)".
43. If the State in which it was born or knockout, stayed for less than 30 days, it does not specify how a country where animal if the animal is grown, stayed in another country for at least 30 days.
44. the special labelling of beef in the numbers and letters must be clearly legible and not less than 0.5 cm. The label must be made of durable, healthy human material that does not damage the meat storage and during transport.

V. concluding questions 46. This rule 26.2.,.,., and 29.3 27.2.2 27.1.3. subparagraph shall enter into force with special cabinet rules.
47. the labelling of the food company products according to the requirements of this regulation begins not later than four months after its acceptance.
48. By January 1, 2004 are prohibited to distribute products not labelled according to the requirements of this regulation.
