Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 426 of 2004 in Riga on April 22 (Mon. No 24, § 65) rules on those foreign lawyers obtained professional titles, which are recognised by applying a special system for the recognition of professional qualifications issued in accordance with the law "About the regulated professions and the recognition of professional qualifications" in article 36 paragraph 6 1. Rules provide for the foreign lawyer's professional name list, which recognises the Republic of Latvia, by applying a special system for the recognition of professional qualifications of persons who wish to take the lawyer's professional activities in the Republic of Latvia.  2. in applying a special system for the recognition of professional qualifications in the Republic of Latvia accepts such a lawyer's professional name, which in the relevant Member State of the European Union, European economic area country or in another country, to which the Republic of Latvia in accordance with binding international agreements are laid down in the Member States of the European Union the right to the recognition of professional qualifications in the field, according to the education and professional qualifications in the supporting documents giving the right to independent professional activities: 2.1 in the Federal Republic of Germany : Rechtsanwalt; 2.2. The Kingdom of Belgium: Avocat, advocaat; 2.3. The Kingdom of Denmark: Advokat; 2.4. Republic of France: avocat; 2.5. Republic of Ireland: Barrister, Solicitor; 2.6. the Italian Republic: Avvocat; 2.7. Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: avocat-avoué; 2.8. The Kingdom of the Netherlands: Advocaat; 2.9. United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: advocate, Barrister, Solicitor; 2.10. The Hellenic Republic: Δικηγόρος; 2.11. The Kingdom of Spain: Abogado; 2.12. the Portuguese Republic: advogado; 2.13. The Republic of Austria: Rechtsanwalt; 2.14. the Republic of Finland: Asianajaja, Advokat; 2.15. The Kingdom of Sweden: Advokat; 2.16. In the Czech Republic: Advoká; 2.17. The Republic of Estonia: Vandeadvoka; 2.18. the Republic of Cyprus: Δικηγόρος; 2.19. In the Slovak Republic: Advoká/Komerčný právnik; 2.25. the Republic of Iceland: Lögmaðuræ; 2.26. the Principality of Liechtenstein: Rechtsan-waltæ in the Kingdom of Norway, 2.27;: Advokatæ; 2.28. the Swiss Confederation: avocat/ADVOKAT, Rechtsanwalt, Fürsprecher, Fürsprech/Anwal, Avvocat.
3. Regulations shall enter into force by 1 May 2004.
Informative reference to European Union directives, the regulations include provisions resulting from: 1) of the Council of 22 March 1977 Directive 77/249/EEC to facilitate on the lawyers of the freedom to provide services effectively; 2) of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 February 1998 Directive 98/5/EC on the lawyer's permanent pursuit of the professional activities of a Member State other than the one in which the professional qualification was obtained.
