Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 475 Riga, 28 June 2005 (pr. No 37. § 18) rules for foreign lawyer obtained professional titles, which recognizes the Republic of Latvia in accordance with the law "About the regulated professions and the recognition of professional qualifications" in article 36 paragraph 7 1. rules determine which foreign lawyers obtained a professional title (qualification) recognises the Republic of Latvia, by applying a special system for the recognition of professional qualifications of persons who wish to take the lawyer's professional activities in the Republic of Latvia.
2. in applying a special system for the recognition of professional qualifications in the Republic of Latvia accepts such a lawyer's professional name, which, according to staff and supporting documents gives the right to an independent lawyer's professional activity: 2.1 in the Federal Republic of Germany: Rechtsanwalt;
2.2. The Kingdom of Belgium: Avocat, advocaat;
2.3. The Kingdom of Denmark: Advokat;
2.4. in the Republic of France: avocat;
2.5. in the Republic of Ireland: Barrister, Solicitor;
2.6. the Italian Republic: Avvocat;
2.7. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: avocat-avoué;
2.8. The Kingdom of the Netherlands-advocaat;
2.9. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland — advocate, Barrister, Solicitor;
2.10. The Hellenic Republic — Δικηγόρος;
2.11. The Kingdom of Spain: Abogado;
2.12. the Portuguese Republic: advogado;
2.13. The Republic of Austria: Rechtsanwalt;
2.14. the Republic of Finland: Asianajaja, Advokat;
2.15. The Kingdom of Sweden: Advokat;
2.16. Czech Republic — Advoká;

Informative reference to European Union directives, the regulations include provisions resulting from: 1) of the Council of 22 March 1977 Directive 77/249/EEC to facilitate the effective exercise by lawyers of freedom to provide services;
2) of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 February 1998 Directive 98/5/EC to facilitate practice of the profession of lawyer on a permanent basis in a Member State other than that in which the qualification was obtained.
