The Saeima has adopted and the President promulgated the following laws: the law "amendments to the Latvian national armed forces participation in international operations" make law "Latvian national armed forces participation in international operations" (Latvian Saeima and the Cabinet of Ministers rapporteur, 1995, nr. 7; 1996, no. 6, no. 8; 2001) follows: 1. Article 1: to supplement the first part of paragraph 5 with the following: "5) international military operations, the purpose of which is to implement the United Nations Charter article 51 in an integral part of United Nations Member States of the right to collective self-defense.";
make the second paragraph as follows: "(2) the Latvian national armed forces units, under the Charter of the United Nations and the Organization for security and cooperation in Europe documents, participating in international operations by international organisations resolutions, recommendations or, at the request of a Member State is the Republic of Latvia or works with the Republic of Latvia, as well as the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation or the request of a Member State of the European Union."
2. Replace article 2, the words "within the framework of the mandate" with the words "in the framework of the mandate or".
3. Replace article 5, first paragraph, the words "the United Nations, as well as the responsibility of other international organizations" with the words "the international organizations or State-run, which runs international operations".
The law shall enter into force on the day following its promulgation.
The Parliament adopted the law of 2002 on January 31.
The President of the Parliament instead of the President j. stream in 2002 Riga, 8 February, the Editorial Note: the law shall enter into force on 9 February 2002.
