The Saeima has adopted and the President promulgated the following laws: the amendments to the law "on aliens and the entry and residence of stateless persons in the Republic of Latvia" make law "on aliens and the conditions of entry and residence of stateless persons in the Republic of Latvia (Republic of Latvia Supreme Council and Government Informant, 1992, 27/28.nr.; The Saeima of the Republic of Latvia and the Cabinet of Ministers rapporteur, 1997, no. 3; in 1998, 2, 12, no. 23; 1999, no. 11; 2000, no. 23; 2002, nr. 3) the following amendments: 1. Turn off the first chapter, the term "expulsion order" explanation and article 5, the words "Ministry of Interior".
2. Supplement article 7 the second subparagraph of paragraph 6 by the following: "6) persons who, in accordance with the laws of Asylum granted temporary protection."
3. Express article 11 by the following: ' article 11. Any alien or stateless person may stay in the Republic of Latvia for more than ninety days calendar half-year, if the residence permit in accordance with the procedure laid down in this Act.
Stay in the Republic of Latvia for more than ninety days without the calendar half-year during the alien a residence permit will be permitted only if the Cabinet rules, in the order received the visa and if the residence in Latvia is due to: 1) research or teaching (Faculty of State accredited educational institution);
2) commercial (business);
3) the provision of assistance to the Latvian State and municipal institutions;
4) the international treaty and the implementation of projects involving the Republic of Latvia.
This article, in the cases referred to in the second subparagraph the visa is issued to the time required for these tasks, but not longer than one year.
Marriage proposals (section 40) may not in itself be grounds for an alien or stateless person stay in the Republic of Latvia for more than ninety days of the calendar half-year during or for a residence permit. "
4. Supplement article 17, the first part of paragraph 4 by the following: ' 4) to temporarily assigned alternative status in accordance with the laws of Asylum. "
5. Express 23.2 article as follows: "article 23.2. Permanent residence permit can be obtained from these aliens and stateless persons who, in accordance with the laws of Asylum has been granted refugee status or subsidiary status. "
6. To supplement the law with article 23.3 as follows: "article 23.3. Permanent residence permit can be obtained from these aliens and stateless persons who, in accordance with the law of Return is granted the status of returnees. "
7. Supplement article 36 for the first part of paragraph 15 and 16 by the following: "15) has lost the status of refugee or alternative status or have subtracted this status;
16) provided about yourself knowingly false statements that were the basis for returnee status and the issue of the residence permit. "
8. Express article 37 (2) of the following: "2) izceļojus to the permanent life abroad."
The law shall enter into force on 1 September 2002.
The Parliament adopted the law of 11 April.
