The Saeima has adopted and the President issued the following law: amendments to the law "on State Presidential operation" make law "on ensuring the activities of the President" (the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia and the Cabinet of Ministers rapporteur, 1995, nr. 24; 1999, no. 23) the following amendments: 1. Put article 5 by the following: "article 5. (1) the President of the Office (hereinafter the Office) is an independent institution that organizes with the President in the performance of related things and familiar with the President's management.
(2) the registry of knowledge of the newly elected President of also filing and until his entry into Office supports the newly elected President of the operation.

2. in article 6: Supplement to the second part of the article as follows: "(2) a contract of employment with the Office Manager, his Deputy and the President's advisers concluded for a fixed period, not longer than the term of Office of the President. 3. To supplement the law with article 7.1 as follows: "article 7.1. (1) the President may establish permanent or temporary Advisory Commission research or governmental issues. If such a Commission is created, the President shall determine the functions, tasks and the term of Office of the members of the Commission, as well as the composition of the Commission.
(2) the Commission's structure, operational and decision-making procedures are governed by the regulations of the Commission, which shall be approved by the President.

4. Express article 8 by the following: ' article 8. (1) the term of Office of the President of the public protection (security).

5. in article 10: replace the first paragraph, the words "a person who has been elected President of the country" with the words "a person who occupied the post of President";
make the second paragraph as follows: "(2) the national safety authorities shall inform the person who took the post of the President, for its safety, and that person has the right to State protection (security) four years after leaving the post of President. For protection (guarding) need after this deadline shall be decided in each individual case, the Cabinet of Ministers, taking into account the national security authorities, and the person who took the post of the President. "
6. in article 11: replace the words "a person who has been elected President of the country" with the words "a person who occupied the post of President";
to supplement the article with the second part as follows: "(2) the procedures for the implementation of this law, article 10 guarantee referred to in the first subparagraph shall be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers."

8. Replace the words "in article 14, the Person who had elected a President" with the words "a Person who occupied the post of President".
