Following the publication of the proposed regulations of the name "Culurgionis" as a protected geographical indication in the official journal of the Italian Republic No. 96 of 26.04.2014 and as a result of the opposition received pursuant to art. 9, paragraph 3, point c) Ministerial Decree. 12511 of October 14, 2013.
In view of the fact that these oppositions have shown that the use of the name "Culurgionis" isn't limited to the geographic area described in the product specification published in the official journal of the Italian Republic No. 96 of 26.04.2014, but this is commonly used, even in its local language versions, in the territory of the autonomous region of Sardinia to designate various types of filled pasta which can differ in shape and/or content depending on the location of production.
Felt that it should be granted the legitimate and documented instance of the Organizing Committee to protect the name "Culurgionis Culurgionis" refers to only the original product of Ogliastra, integrating the traditional term "Culurgionis" with geographic reference "Ogliastra".
Considering that the autonomous region of Sardinia in the consultation phase has highlighted the need to safeguard the use of traditional Sardinian denominations that identify a range of fresh filled pasta products which may differ in form and/or content.
Considered that the security demand as IGP name "Culurgionis d'ogliastra" may allow, in accordance with the applicable rules, the continuation of the use of the producers concerned of the geographical term "Culurgionis" (even in its local language variants), to designate various types of filled pasta that may differ in form and/or content, surpassing the reasons of the opposition received.
Considering also that the autonomous region of Sardinia has also represented the importance of introducing in the product specification the obligation to highlight on the label the alternative use of potatoes or potato flakes as an ingredient of the filling.
In compliance with the provisions of paragraph 5 of art. 10 of Ministerial Decree No. 12511 of October 14, 2013 and found the opportunity to provide evidence, through publication in the official journal of the Italian Republic, of the changes introduced in the text of the product specification published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale della Repubblica italiana no 96 of 26.04.2014.
The Ministry of agricultural food and forestry policies, in agreement with the autonomous region of Sardinia, delivers a favourable opinion on the request for registration as IGP name "Culurgionis d'ogliastra" and the product specification in the text below, proceeding to the transmission of the dossier to the European Commission.
