Based on this, there has been a thorough and thorough study of the feasibility of regional formation and the conclusion that it needs to be formed by Mahakam Ulu County.

The formation of Mahakam ulu Regency which is the exchange of West Kutai Regency consists of 5 (five) sub-districts, namely Long Apari District, Long Pahangai District, Long Bagun District, Laham District, and Long Hubung District. Mahakam Ulu Regency has an entire area of ± 15,315 km2 with a population of ± 27,923 in 2012 and consists of 49 (forty-nine) desa/kelurahan. Mahakam Ulu Regency is directly bordered by Sarawak State Malaysia to the north, Kutai Kartanegara Regency to the east, West Kutai Regency to the south, and West Kalimantan Province and Central Kalimantan Province on the other side. west.

Geostrategic, Mahakam Ulu County is open gates to Malaysia (Sarawak). Mahakam Ulu regency is in a strategic position so that it can develop national power in the face and address of all obstacles and distractions, whether coming from the outside or from the inside, the direct or indirect ones that angering intergrity, identity, nation and state survival as well as the struggle of achieving national objectives in support of the success of the government ' s principal tasks for the well-being of the whole layer of society especially in the border area and inland.

Geopolitically, Mahakam Ulu County, which is located to the west of East Kalimantan Province and is directly bordered by the State of Malaysia (Sarawak), is highly potential to preserve the sovereignty and dignity of the Republic of Indonesia. Manifested in motion and the follow up of all the layers of society in the area of Mahakam Ulu County especially in the border areas with Malaysia. However, the current objective conditions are precisely the opposite, where people living in the border region are slowly beginning to reduce the spirit of the nationality. This is due to economic factors, in which the border area is largely inland and lagged, untouched by the crutches of development (due to the vastness of the span of control of the Regency). In the West, while there are opportunities and attractive offers from neighbouring countries (the "silent anexation" attempt) whose notabenes can improve the quality of life of the people on the border. Some of the villages of Naha Tivab, Long Apari and surrounding areas have been many who emigrated, initially to work for the plantation company and decided to stay in Malaysia.

One important factor as determining the viability of increased territory status is the economic potential. The border region has great potential for development, both natural resources and trade. The economic potential of the Mahakam Ulu County region is spread with variations such as rubber, palm oil, cocoa, rotan, and coffee. The forestry sector is wood, bird's nest wallets, gaharu. The agricultural sector is among the fields and fields of the community. Livestock such as pigs, cattle, kramba fish and mining sector are coal, gold, iron ore, uranium, petroleum, quarry C. In the trade sector of Mahakam Ulu County is at a strategic position for trade. intersection such as trading with the New Mahak of Malinau County, Sarawak (Malaysia) as well as with Topus Village, Puruq Cahuq Greater Murung Regency in Central Kalimantan Province.

Mahakam Ulu's district prioritizes development in the area of Long Apari District and Long Pahangai District as the front porch of the State of the Republic of Indonesia and open a land transport line connecting the districts and villages Until Malaysia (Sarawak). The Mahakam Ulu county government in a period of 5 s.d. The first 10 years is committed not to build a luxury building for government facilities except for the benefit of building hospitals and public meeting halls (poured in contract politics), as well as focusing attention on the opening of the isolation of the region in particular the road infrastructure between Long Bagun District – Long Pahangai sub-district 155 km and Long Pahangai sub-district to Long Apari District for 98 km.

With the formation of Mahakam Ulu County as an autonomous region, the Government of East Kalimantan Province is obligated to assist and facilitate the institutional creation of the Regional People's Representative Council and the efficient and effective Area Devices. with the needs and capabilities, as well as assisting and facilitating the transfer of personnel, diversion of assets and documents for the benefit of holding regional governments in order to improve public service and accelerate its well-being-being people in Mahakam Ulu County.

In carrying out regional autonomy, Mahakam Ulu Regency needs to undertake a variety of economic capabilities, the preparation of governance and infrastructure of governance, empowerment, and improving human resources, and the management of natural resources. in accordance with the laws.
