On the basis of Section 5 (5) of the General Railways Act of 27 December 1993 (BGBl. I p. 2378, 2396), the Federal Ministry of Transport, in agreement with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, is responsible for: Unofficial table of contents

§ 1 Scope

(1) Monitoring of compliance with state regulations of technical occupational safety and health shall be the responsibility of the Federal Railways and of the railway undertakings established abroad for the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Federal Republic of Germany. The Federal Railway Authority, insofar as these provisions concern the operation of rail vehicles and installations which are directly responsible for ensuring the operation of the railway system. The provisions of the first sentence shall not apply to the blocking or decommissioning of an installation for the duration of the blocking or decommissioning. (2) The installations referred to in paragraph 1 shall be
1.
Propanal heaters, including the supply containers,
2.
Gas-lighting equipment for signals,
3.
Compressed air tanks in switchgear of the railway system,
4.
Installations for the handling of railway operations, such as rail, shunting, signalling, interlocking, railway bridges, railway tunnels,
5.
Power supply systems (including switchgear and transformer stations, including switchgear), long-distance lines, pipelines, and rail tracks.
(3) The tasks, responsibilities and powers of the institutions of the statutory accident insurance in the field of employment protection remain unaffected. Unofficial table of contents

§ 2 Entry into force
