Pursuant to § 45 of the Rules of the Craft Act, as amended by the Notice of 28 December 1965 (BGBl. 1), most recently in accordance with Article 33 of the Regulation of 21 September 1997 (BGBl I). 2390), the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, in agreement with the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology, has been responsible for the following:

§ 1 Vocational Training

(1) The following activities are to be attributed to the sheet-maker craft:
Design, manufacture, maintenance and restoration of arches for string instruments, in particular violin, viola, cello, bass and gamma arches. (2) The following knowledge and skills are to be attributed to the sheetmaker's craft:
1.
Knowledge of the arches for string instruments,
2.
knowledge of work-related raw materials, plant and auxiliary materials, in particular wood species,
3.
Knowledge of the occupational requirements of species protection,
4.
Knowledge of occupational tools, equipment and machinery,
5.
Knowledge of the history of music and musical instruments, as well as of the style, especially the archery schools,
6.
Knowledge in the field of music theory,
7.
Knowledge of weight distribution, tension and elasticity of arches,
8.
Knowledge of the Stricharts of Bows,
9.
knowledge of the maintenance and restoration of bows,
10.
knowledge of the species and characteristics of stringed instruments and the associated arcs,
11.
Knowledge of occupational standards and measures,
12.
Knowledge of occupational environmental protection regulations, in particular the protection of immission,
13.
Knowledge of occupational health and safety and occupational safety regulations,
14.
Design and manufacture drawings of works,
15.
fourths and columns of wood as well as cutting of the boards and rods,
16.
Work on wood, in particular columns, saws, turning, planing, filing, drilling, engraving, grinding and clams,
17.
Lifting of the raw bow bars as well as the sawing of the head,
18.
Bending, bending and planing of the bars,
19.
deforming of the head, in particular by carving and filing,
20.
Manufacture of raw sticks, in particular by columns, saws, steaks and reels of ebony,
21.
Machining of precious metals, especially saws, rolls, figs, punching, pencils and soldering,
22.
Mount the metal and mother-of-pearl parts to the frog,
23.
deforming the frog,
24.
To make the leg,
25.
Take care of and assemble rod, frog and leg,
26.
Sorting, binding and drawing in hair,
27.
Control and correct the bow,
28.
Manual and machine surface treatment, in particular pickling, oils and polishing,
29.
affixing of the winding,
30.
Maintenance and maintenance of arches,
31.
Maintenance and maintenance of the occupational tools, equipment and machines.

Examination requirements in Parts I and II of the Master Examination

§ 2 Structure, duration and existence of the practical test (Part I)

(1) In Part I, a master examination is to be completed and a work sample to be carried out. In the determination of the master examination work, the proposals of the test item are to be taken into consideration as far as possible. (2) The preparation of the master examination work should no longer than eight working days, the execution of the work sample no longer than (3) Minimum requirements for the existence of Part I are sufficient performances in the master examination work and in the working sample. § 3 Master Examination

(1) One of the following works is to be carried out as a master's thesis:
1.
a violin bow,
2.
a roasting bow,
3.
a cello bow,
4.
a bow arch according to German or French model.
(2) Before producing the master examination work, the examinee must submit the material to be used and the preliminary calculation for approval. (3) The material list, the drawing of the work with the master examination work, are to be found in the examination paper. (4) The material list, the work drawing with measurements as well as the pre-calculation and post-calculation are to be taken into consideration in the evaluation of the master examination work. § 4 Work sample

(1) Four of the following work shall be carried out as a working sample:
1.
Hoeba of a bow tie,
2.
Refer to a sheet,
3.
Work out a cut-out and bursting head,
4.
Take care of and rework a headboard on a finished sheet,
5.
Align a bow bar,
6.
Manual production of a frog,
7.
manual shanks of a head with swallowtail,
8.
Anshanks of a frog's feet and fitting a frog ring,
9.
Shanks of a pliers end and fitting a frog.
(2) The working sample shall examine the most important skills and knowledge which could not be proved, or only insufficiently demonstrated, in the master examination work. Unofficial table of contents

§ 5 Examination of the subject-theoretical knowledge (Part II)

(1) In Part II, knowledge in the following five examination subjects shall be proven:
1.
Technical mathematics:
a)
material and cutting calculations,
b)
Weight calculations;
2.
Technical technology:
a)
Manufacture, maintenance and restoration of arches for string instruments,
b)
the types and characteristics of stringed instruments and the associated arcs,
c)
Weight distribution, tension and elasticity of bows,
d)
Stricharting of bows,
e)
professional standards and measures,
f)
professional occupational safety and health requirements;
3.
Material customer: species, characteristics, names, use, processing, storage and disposal of the occupational raw materials, plant and auxiliary materials;
4.
Style, music and musical instrument history, music theory:
a)
Stilkunde, in particular archery schools,
b)
music and musical instrument history, in particular the arches for string instruments,
c)
music theory;
5.
Calculation: Cost determination involving all factors essential to price formation.
(2) The examination shall be carried out in writing and orally. (3) The written examination shall not exceed six hours in total, and the oral test shall not take more than half an hour. In the written examination, it is not to be examined for more than six hours in one day. (4) The examinee must be exempted from the oral examination on request if he has performed at least good written services on average. (5) The minimum requirement for the existence of Part II shall be sufficient performance in the examination subject referred to in paragraph 1 (2).

Transitional and final provisions

§ 6 Transitional provision

The examination procedures under way at the date of entry into force of this Regulation shall be completed in accordance with the existing provisions. Unofficial table of contents

§ 7 Additional requirements

The further requirements in the Master Examination are determined by the Ordination on Common Requirements in the Master Examination in the Craft Sector of 12 December 1972 (BGBl. 2381), as amended. Unofficial table of contents

Section 8 Entry into force

(1) This Regulation shall enter into force on 1 April 1998. (2) The provisions to be applied further pursuant to Section 122 of the Craft Code shall no longer be applicable to the extent to which they regulate the subject matter of this Regulation.
