Species 1

The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany is awarded by the Federal President and can be carried as a sign of universal recognition in the form of an Order of the Order. Unofficial table of contents

Type 2

(1) The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic shall be awarded as:
Großkreuz, Großes Verdienstkreuz and Verdienstkreuz.
(2) The Grand Cross is also awarded in a special stage. The Federal President also reserves the right to give special execution to the Grand Cross in individual cases. The Great Cross of Merit can also be awarded with star and shoulder band or only with star, the Cross of Merit also in the form of the Order Cross on the band. Art 3

(1) The sign is a red-enamelled, golden, slim cross. In its middle the German eagle is placed in black on a round sign. (2) The band of the Order is red with gold-black-gold-hem. Unofficial table of contents

Species 4

(1) The form and the carrying style of the Order of Merit are:
1.
The Grand Cross is carried by a wide band leading from the right shoulder to the left hip. The band is working with the federal eagle. To the Grand Cross is a golden six-pointed star, on which the order sign is placed. This is worn on the left chest side. As a special stage, the Grand Cross is carried with an eight-pointed star.
2.
The Great Cross of Merit is a little bit smaller than the Grand Cross.
a)
as a big merit cross with star and shoulder strap worn on a wide band leading from the right shoulder to the left hip. The Great Cross of Merit with the Star and Shoulder Band is a golden four-pointed star on which the order sign is placed. This is worn on the left chest side.
b)
as a big Cross of Merit with a star and a Great Cross of Merit on a band around his neck. For the shape and the carrying style of the star, point 2 (a) shall apply.
3.
The Cross of Merit is a little bit smaller than the Great Order of Merit.
a)
as a Cross of Merit 1. Class attached to the left chest side.
b)
as a Cross of Merit on a narrow band on the upper left side of the chest.
4.
The Verdienstmedaille is round and of golden colour. On the front, it bears the Cross of the Order, which is surrounded by a laurel wreaer, and on the back the inscription: "For merit around the Federal Republic of Germany", which is also surrounded by a laurel wreaer. The Verdienstmedaille is worn on the same band as the Cross of Merit at the Bande on the upper left breast side. The band, however, has a slightly narrower hem.
The form and extent of the religious signs and the ligaments are laid down on sample boards. (2) In the case of renewed, higher honors with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the order of the Order of the Order of Merit is not filed; however, only one of the following shall be taken into account. Species 5

(1) Eligible for the award of the Order of Merit
the heads of the top federal authorities as well as President of the German Bundestag and the President of the German Federal Council
for the persons in the service of the Federal Government of their business unit,
the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs
for German nationals residing abroad and for foreign nationals,
the Prime Ministers of the Länder, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, the President of the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, and the President of the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg
for the area of their countries.
(2) The proposals shall be forwarded to the head of the Federal Presidential Office, who shall submit it to the Federal President for a decision. Unofficial table of contents

Species 6

(1) The Grand Cross, the Great Cross of Merit with Star and Shoulder Band, and the Grand Cross of Merit with Star are each conferred by a special decree of the Federal President. The Federal Chancellor or, depending on the German or a foreign national or a German national, the Federal Minister of the Interior or the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, (2) Lending of the Grand Cross of Merit, the Cross of Merit and the Medal of Merit are to be drawn up by the Federal President's decree under the countersigned by the Federal Chancellor or the Federal Minister of the Interior or by the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs and co-signed by the head of the Federal Presidential Office. (1) All Beliehens receive a certificate with the signature of the Federal President. The documents of the ceremony of the Grand Cross, the Great Cross of Merit with the Star and the Shoulder Band and the Great Cross of Merit with Star bear the great one, which is about the awarding of the Great Cross of Merit, the Cross of Merit and the Great Merit Cross.
