Two competitions were held simultaneously. They consist of a written test of eligibility and an oral test for admission. Candidates for the external competition with a minimum experience of three years may opt at the time of their entries to the competition for an oral examination for admission consisting of the presentation of the achievements of their professional experience in the specialty in which they compete.
This same event of recognition of professional experience is the oral test for the admission of the closed competition.
The tests are scored from 0 to 20. Any lower score 6 out of 20 in the written test of eligibility before applying the coefficients, is eliminatory.

The written test of common to both competitions eligibility consists of case study or a technical dossier to assess the qualities of reflection and the meaning of the Organization of the candidate (duration: three hours; factor 4).

The Board establishes a supplementary list by speciality, candidates that it considers suitable to be admitted to the competition.
When several candidates meet the same number of points at the end tests, priority is given to one of them who got the best score at the oral test for admission.

The Board is appointed by the keeper of the seals, Minister of justice. It includes: — the Director of the prison administration, or his representative, president;
― three officials of the Ministry of justice belonging to category A, including two belonging to the technical and operating sector in decentralized services of the prison administration;
― a Ministry of justice official belonging to category B of the technical and operating sector in decentralized services of the prison and cash administration a seniority of at least three years in the body.
The jury may, if necessary, appeal to qualified reviewers.
