THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE SALVADOR,

CONSIDERING:

I.- In accordance with Article 131, ordinal 22 of the Constitution of the Republic, it is the authority of this State Body to grant persons or populations, titles, honorary distinctions and gratifications consistent with the established form of government, for relevant services rendered to the Homeland.

II.- That Article 6, paragraph (c) of the Law on Honorary Distinctions, Gratifications and Titles, establishes that the honorary distinctions of Notable and Distinguished or Distinguished, in their order of relevance, may be granted to Salvadoran or foreign residents, when the services or contributions that have been provided to the Patria, are related to the dissemination and use of the science, art, culture,

III.- That the poet Claribel Alegría, originally from Estelí, Nicaragua, daughter of Salvadoran mother, has in El Salvador her adoptive homeland, since she resided from the age of one year in Santa Ana, passing her childhood and first youth in our country until she concluded with her secondary studies, when she began one of her greatest adventures in the United States of America, where she studied at the University of Loyola, in New Orleans, and later in New Orleans.

IV.- That the poet Claribel Alegría, from a very young age, demonstrated her abilities as a multifaceted writer, with a delicate creative sensibility that found in her possessed her highest expression, which in a spit and sober way, recreates the eternal problem of the human being over love, death, longing and hope, achieving that her literary creation transcends the word and meets with the most vital and expressive flows of Latin America.

V.- That by virtue of the above merits, it is appropriate to grant the Honorary Distinction of “NOTABLE POETA AND DISTINGUIDA MAESTRA”, to the artist Claribel Alegría, in recognition of her invaluable literary contribution, with which she has contributed to the enrichment of the artistic and poetic heritage of El Salvador, encouraging the reading of the new generations, and fostering culture at the national level.

Art. 1.- Tell the artist Claribel Alegría, “NOTABLE POETA AND DISTINGUIDA MAESTRA”, in recognition of her invaluable literary contribution, with which she has contributed to the enrichment of the artistic and poetic heritage of El Salvador, stimulating the reading of the new generations, and promoting culture at the national level.

Art. 2.- This Decree shall enter into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
