DECREE NO 696
THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF EL SALVADOR,
CONSIDERING:
I.-That by Legislative Decree No. 1030, dated April 26, 1997, published in Official Journal No. 105, Volume No. 335 of June 10 of the same year, the Criminal Code was issued.
II. public authority, agents of the National Civil Police and military elements that exceptionally carry out public security tasks, as well as prison staff and the protection personnel of persons subject to special security, have frequently been subjected to attacks or attacks against their lives and physical integrity,
III.-That in order to carry out some specific actions to combat this kind of facts that threaten the life and physical integrity of the referred persons, it is necessary to increase the penalty of the offence of aggravated murder, in particular, in order to seek to eradicate the
addition, the furniture and buildings of the Police Corporation have also been the subject of attacks perpetrated by criminal groups, who, with their actions, represent a serious risk to the individual and collective legal goods protected by the Criminal Law.
V.-To pay attention to the proposed approaches, it is necessary to introduce the relevant reforms to the Penal Code.
THEREFORE,
in use of its Constitutional powers and on the initiative of the President of the Republic, through the Minister of Justice and Public Security.
DECRETA the following:
CRIMINAL CODE REFORMS
Art. 1.-Substitute in Article 129, the numeral 10) and the final indent, by the following:
" 10) When executed against a person on the grounds of his or her quality as public official, public authority, agent of authority, members of the Armed forces, security personnel of the Criminal Centers, security personnel of the Centers for the Protection of Minors or the protection personnel of persons subject to special security, whether or not they are in the exercise of their functions.

In the cases of numerals 3, 4 and 7, the penalty will be twenty to thirty years in prison; in the cases of numerals 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9, the penalty shall be thirty to fifty years of imprisonment; and in the case of the numeral 10, the penalty shall be forty to sixty years of imprisonment. "
Art. 2.-Add to Article 222, number 6), as follows:
" 6) If the damage is caused by movable or immovable property used by the National Civil Police, the Directorate General of the Criminal Centers or the Armed Forces of El Salvador. "
Art. 3.-This Decree shall enter into force eight days after its publication in the Official Journal.
