DECREE No. 707

THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF EL SALVADOR,

CONSIDERING:

I.-That, in accordance with the first paragraph of Article 248 of the Constitution, the Legislative Assembly of the previous period, dated April 25, 2012, agreed to incorporate an article 63 of our Constitution. Magna Carta, thus issuing the corresponding Constitutional Reform Agreement, which was published in Official Journal No. 84, Volume 395, dated May 9 of the same year.

II.-That likewise, the Art. 248 Cn. in its second indent, establishes, that in order for such a reform to be decreed it must be ratified by the following Legislative Assembly with the vote of two-thirds of the elected deputies.

III.-That having met the requirements that the Constitution itself establishes for its modification, it is appropriate to ratify the reform to Article 63, in the El Salvador recognizes indigenous peoples and will adopt policies to maintain and develop their Ethnic and cultural identity, cosmovision, values and spirituality.

BY TANTO,

in use of its Constitutional faculties and having been given compliance with the provisions of Article 248 of the Constitution DECREE, SANCTIONS AND PROMULGATION the following constitutional reform:

Art. 1.-ratify the incorporation of an article 63 of the Constitution, contained in the Constitutional Reform Agreement No. 5, dated April 25, 2012, published in Official Journal No. 84, Volume 395, dated May 9, the same year, as follows:

"El Salvador recognizes indigenous peoples and will adopt policies to maintain and develop their ethnic and cultural identity, worldview, values and spirituality."

Art. 2.-This Decree shall enter into force eight days after its publication in the Official Journal.

GIVEN IN THE BLUE HALL OF THE LEGISLATIVE PALACE: San Salvador, at the twelve days of June of the year two thousand fourteen.
