DECREE NO 885

THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF EL SALVADOR,

CONSIDERING:

I.-That Article 209 of the Constitution provides that the Law shall establish the necessary bodies for the reception, counting and audit of votes and other activities concerning the suffrage and shall ensure that they are integrated in such a way that no party or coalition of parties predominate in them.

II. Article 186 of the Electoral Code sets out the characteristics of the ballot papers.

III.-That there are coalitions and allow the list to be repeated in each of the parties that are going to be in place, with the system of preferences, These would be duplicated, so in order to avoid duplicity of preferences for the same candidate, when there are coalitions, a reform of the aforementioned article needs to be done.

DECRETA the following:

ELECTORAL CODE REFORM

Art. 1.-Add the letter "f" to Article 186, as follows:

" f) In case of coalitions for Elections of Deputies, the flag of the coalition or the flags of the parties in the coalition and below the photograph and the name of the each of the candidates or candidates in the order in which they were proposed by the coalition, in the space corresponding to the political party that would have obtained the least number according to the draw made in the literal "a" of this article. It must also have a space for the citizen to be able to mark, if he so wishes, the candidate or candidate to whom he gives preference. In no case may the names, photographs and flags be printed on the same ballot more than once. "

Art. 2.-This Decree will enter into force eight days after its publication in the Official Journal.
