The Czech Statistical Office pursuant to § 7 para. 2 of Act No. 89/1995 Coll., on
the national statistical service, as amended, issued with the
effect from 1. January 2004 the complete nomenclature of territorial
units (hereinafter referred to as "the classification CZ-NUTS").
CZ-the NUTS classification is the same as with the classification of territorial
units of measure, which was introduced to the CSO of 27 June. April 1999
(published in amount of 33/1999 Coll.) and updated measures of the CZECH STATISTICAL OFFICE of
June 15, 2001 (published in the amount of 88/2001 Coll.).

NOMENCLATURE OF TERRITORIAL STATISTICAL UNITS-NUTS
(I).
THE METHODOLOGICAL PART
1.
Introduction
Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic No. 707/1998 on the proposal for the definition of
a NUTS territorial unit in the Czech Republic for the purposes of statistical, analytical and
the needs of the European Union (EU), the Government has recommended to the President of the CZECH STATISTICAL OFFICE, after
the agreement with the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat)
defining the statistical territorial units NUTS on the territory of the Czech Republic.
Therefore, the Czech Statistical Office has drawn up a classification of territorial
the statistical units NUTS on the basis of the CZ-methodological principles
created by Eurostat. GB in the name means national classification
the version of the international standard NUTS.
2.
The methodological principles of international classification of NUTS
The NUTS classification (Nomenclature des Unités Territoriales La
Statistiques) was introduced by the Statistical Office of the European communities
in cooperation with the other EU institutions for the purposes of classifying the single
the unified structure of territorial units.
The NUTS classification is used for statistical monitoring and analytics
the social and economic situation in the regions and for the needs of training,
implementation and evaluation of regional policy.
Since 1988, the NUTS classification is used in the EU legislation (Council
Regulation No 2052/88 and subsequent regulations), in particular for the tasks associated
with drawing of the EU structural funds.
The classification contains 6 levels of NUTS (NUTS 0, NUTS 1, NUTS 2, NUTS 3
NUTS NUTS 4 and 5) that represent the size of the group. The definition of
each of the NUTS levels is characterized by the number of inhabitants and the
area.
The NUTS classification is a combination of alphabetic and numeric code. In addition to NUTS 0
and NUTS 5 on each item used 1 instead. Where the number of coded
items exceeds 10 positions, also uses the numbers 1 through 9 and are used
letters without accents. This means that the number A = 10, B = 11, etc. U
NUTS 0 uses a two-digit alphabetic state code according to the dial pad
countries.
3.
CZ-NUTS
Government resolution No. 707/1998 recommended to define the statistical territorial
units on the territory of the CZECH REPUBLIC in conformity with the definition in the NUTS within the EU. Therefore, it is
CZ-NUTS drawn up on the basis of the methodological principles and
Eurostat standard.
On the basis of Constitutional Act No. 347/1997 Coll. of the CZECH REPUBLIC will be cut from 1. 1.
2000 to 14 regions-higher territorial self-governing units (VÚSC).
The average size of these regions in comparison with the EU average of the NUTS 2

When defining a NUTS territorial unit shall take into account in particular the following

Decisive for the pooling of regions in the cohesion regions (NUTS 2)

According to the above principles have been laid down the structure of the classification
CZ-NUTS.
4.
Subject classification CZ-NUTS
Subject classification CZ-NUTS is classifying territorial units in the Czech Republic
According to the principles established within the framework of the EU.
The NUTS classification has 6 levels with the following meaning:
NUTS 0 = State (i.e., CR)
Nuts 1 = territory (i.e., CR)
Nuts 2 = cohesion region (i.e. combined counties)
Nuts 3 = region (i.e. higher territorial self-governing units – VÚSC)
NUTS 4 = County
NUTS 5 = municipality (i.e., as a rule, the basic territorial units-ZÚJ).
5.
The design of classification CZ-NUTS

Section (NUTS 0)-expresses the State of the Czech Republic-uses a two-digit
alphabetic code (according to dial countries)-IE. CZ.
Subsection (NUTS 1)-expresses the territory of the Czech Republic-0.
Group (NUTS 2)-expresses the cohesion regions. combined counties
(total of 8)-numbered from 1 to 8 (only used codes).
The Sub-group (NUTS 3)-expresses the region-VÚSC (total 14)-numbered from
1 to 9, always within the area (joint), and used codes
they are 1-3.
Class (NUTS 4)-expresses the districts (total 91 Inc. 15 circuits of Prague)-
numbered from 1 to 9 and the letter A to Z in a given region sorted
alphabetically (A-F are used).
Subclass (NUTS 5)-expresses the municipality (a total of 6 244)-for numbering
uses existing dial fundamental territorial units (municipalities, spinner
