The department of Quinchao shall have the following limits: to the North, the Channels of Quinchao and Quicaví, from the Dalcahue Canal to the Gulf of Ancud; the Gulf of Ancud, from the Quicaví channel to the Punta Comau, the Comau Estuary or Leutepu, the Bodudahue River and the parallel of the nascent of this river; the line of secondary divisive summits of water, from the tip of Chulao, over the Gulf of Ancud to the line of peaks that limits to the south the hoya of the estuary Comau or Leutepu and The line of hills bordering on the south the Hoya of the Comau or Leutepu estuary and the Bodudahue River, from the line of the aforementioned divisive peaks up to the Argentine border.
To the east, the dividing line with the Republic of Argentina, until the parallel of the nation of the Palena River.
To the south, the Palena River and the Chelin and Quehui Canal water line.
To the west, the Dalcahue canal, from the aforesaw channel to the Quinchao channel. The Chauques archipelago and the Tac and Deserters Islands, and the other within the previous boundary, belong to the Quinchao communa.
