10 JANVIER 2012. - An Act to amend the Royal Decree of 1er December 1975, establishing a general regulation on the road traffic police and the use of the highway, with a view to registering the bicycle street in the road code (1)

To all, present and to come, Hi.
The Chambers adopted and We sanction the following:
Article 1er. This Act regulates a matter referred to in Article 78 of the Constitution.
Art. 2. In Article 2 of the Royal Decree of 1er December 1975, by the Royal Decree of 27 April 2007, on the General Regulation on the Police of Road Traffic and the Use of the Public Channel, it is inserted a point 2.61, which reads as follows:
« 2.61. "cyclable street": a street that is arranged as a cycle route, in which specific behaviour rules are applied to cyclists, but in which motor vehicles are also allowed. A cyclable street is marked by a signal indicating its beginning and a signal indicating its end. "
Art. 3. In title II of the same order, an article 22novies is inserted, as follows:
"Art. 22novies. Circulation in cycling streets.
In the cyclable streets, the cyclist can use the entire width of the public lane when it is only open to its traffic direction and half the width on the right side when it is open to both traffic directions.
All bike streets are accessible to motor vehicles. However, they cannot exceed cyclists. Speed can never exceed 30 km/h. "
Art. 4. The King is responsible for planning, in the Royal Decree of 1er December 1975, bringing general regulations on the road traffic police and the use of the public highway, within six months of the coming into force of this Act, two signals indicating respectively the beginning and end of the bicycle street as defined in section 2 of this Act.
It may amend, repeal or replace the provisions amended by this Act.
Promulgate this law, order that it be clothed with the seal of the State and published by the Belgian Monitor.
