According to the note by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Government of the People's Republic of China announced on 6 June 1997 that the amendment to the Protocol will apply to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Furthermore, the Government of the People's Republic of China has informed that the amendment will also be applied to the Macao Special Administrative Region as from 20 September 1999, with the following declaration: Special Administrative Region Macao. The Government of the People's Republic of China shall assume responsibility for the international rights and obligations arising from the application of the Convention, the Protocol and the amendment to the Special Administrative Region of Macao.
