140. Statement by the Federal Chancellor concerning the scope of the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade

According to the Communications of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the following States have ratified their instruments of ratification or ratification. Accession documents to the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for certain hazardous chemicals and pesticides in international trade (BGBl. III No 67/2005 idF BGBl. On the occasion of the deposit of their instrument of accession, the following declarations have been made by the following States:

Botsuana:

Pursuant to Article 20 (2), the Government of the Republic of Botswana declares that, with regard to any dispute concerning the application or interpretation of this Convention, it shall make the two means of dispute settlement in accordance with Article 20 (2) mandatory in the the relationship with any other party which has the same obligation. This declaration shall remain valid for as long as the Government of the Republic of Botswana is a party to the Convention.

Estonia:

With a view to any dispute concerning the application or interpretation of this Convention, the Republic of Estonia shall recognise the two means of dispute settlement referred to in Article 20 (2) as binding in relation to any other Contracting Party which: has the same obligation.

According to a further note by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, China extended the scope of the Convention to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 26 August 2008.
