87. Multilateral Agreement M243 according to section 1.5.1 ADR on the transport of UN 1402, CALCIUM carbide of class 4.3, packaging group I, in tanks

By way of derogation from the provisions of Chapter 3.2, Table A, columns (12) and (13) ADR, UN 1402, CALCIUM CARBIDE of class 4.3, packaging group I, may be transported in tanks, provided the following conditions are met:

a)

This substance may only be transported in tanks of the tank coding S2, 65AN (+).

b)

In addition to the particulars referred to in paragraph 6.8.2.5.2, the tanks shall be endorsed with the

" NOT OPEN DURING TRANSPORT. FORMS FLAMMABLE GASES IN CONTACT WITH WATER. "

be provided.

The markings must be written in an official language of the country of admission and, if that language is not German, English or French, also in German, English or French, unless agreements have been made between the to prescribe something else from the transport of touched states.

c)

During transport, these substances must be covered by an inert gas, the pressure of which must be at least 50 kPa (0.5 bar) (excess pressure).

d)

The tank hierarchy referred to in paragraph 4.3.4.1.2 ADR is not applicable.

e)

The tanks may only be filled with filling material up to 90% of their capacity.

f)

Unpurified empty tanks containing these substances must be filled with an inert gas at a pressure of at least 50 kPa (0.5 bar) (overpressure) in the case of the transport task.

In addition to the required information, the sender must note in the transport document:

"Transport agreed in accordance with section 1.5.1 ADR (M243)".

(3)

This Agreement shall apply until 31 December 2012 in respect of transport operations in the territories of the ADR Contracting States which have signed this Agreement. If, before that date, it is revoked by one of the Signatories, it shall, until the date of the aforementioned date, be deemed to apply only to transport operations in the territories of those ADR Contracting States which have signed this Agreement and have not withdrawn it.

under section 1.5.1 of ADR concerning the carriage of UN 1402, CALCIUM Carbide, class 4.3, packing group I, in tanks

By derogation from the provisions in column (12) and (13) of table A, chapter 3.2, ADR, UN 1402, CALCIUM Carbide, class 4.3, packing group I, may be carried in tanks, provided the following conditions are met:

(a)

This substance may be carried only in tanks with the tank code S2.65AN (+).

(b)

Tanks shall bear in addition to the item prescribed in 6.8.2.5.2, the words:

" DO NOT OPEN DURING CARRIAGE. GIVES OFF FLAMMABLE GAS ON CONTACT WITH WATER "

These ves shall be in an official language of the country of approval, and that is, if that language is not English, French or German, in English, French or German, unless any agreements concluded between the countries concerned in the transport operation provide otherwise.

(c)

During carriage, theses substances shall be under a layer of inert gas, the gauge pressure of which shall not be less than 50 kPa (0.5 bar).

(d)

The hierarchy in 4.3.4.1.2 is not applicable.

(e)

Tanks shall be filled to not more than 90% of their capacity.

(f)

Uncleaned empty tanks which have contained these substances shall when handed over for carriage be filled with an inert gas at a gauge pressure of at least 50 kPa (0.5 bar).

(2)

In addition to the information prescribed, the consignor shall enter in the transport document:

"Carriage agreed under the terms of section 1.5.1 of ADR (M243)".

(3)

This agreement shall be valid until 31 December 2012 for the carriage on the territories of those ADR Contracting Parties signatory to this agreement. If it is revoked before that date by one of the signatories, it shall remain valid until the above mentioned date only for carriage on the territories of those ADR Contracting Parties signatory to this agreement which have not revoked it.

The agreement was signed by Austria on 19 May 2012.
