111. Federal Constitutional Law on sustainability, animal welfare, comprehensive environmental protection, ensuring water and food supply and research

The National Council has decided:

§ 1. The Republic of Austria (Federation, Länder and municipalities) is committed to the principle of sustainability in the use of natural resources, in order to ensure the best possible quality of life for future generations.

§ 2. The Republic of Austria (Federation, Länder and Municipalities) is committed to animal welfare.

§ 3. (1) The Republic of Austria (Federation, Länder and municipalities) is committed to comprehensive environmental protection.

(2) Comprehensive environmental protection is the preservation of the natural environment as the basis of human life against harmful effects. The overall environmental protection is in particular measures to clean air, water and soil, and to avoid noise caused by noise.

§ 4. The Republic of Austria (Federation, Länder and municipalities) is committed to supplying water as a part of general interest services and to their responsibility for ensuring their provision and quality.

§ 5. The Republic of Austria (Federal Government, Länder and Municipalities) is committed to ensuring the supply of high-quality food of animal and plant origin to the population, also from domestic production and sustainable production. natural raw materials in Austria in order to ensure security of supply.

§ 6. The Republic of Austria (Federation, Länder and Municipalities) is committed to the importance of basic research and applied research.

§ 7. The Federal Government is responsible for the enforcement of this Federal Constitutional Law.

§ 8. This Federal Constitutional Law shall enter into force at the end of the day of its manifestation. At the same time, the Federal Constitutional Law on the Comprehensive Environmental Protection Act, BGBl. No 491/1984, except for force.
