Notification of the following Ramsar site in accordance with Article 2 (5) of the Convention on Wetlands, in particular as a habitat for water and wadding birds, of international importance 1

Ramsar area "Upper Drau/Upper Drau River"

Eastern and western extension of the area:

West: WGS84 (GM): 12 ° 53.95 'E/46 ° 46.60' N

East: WGS84 (GM): 13 ° 34.57 'E/46 ° 44.91' N

The Ramsar area of Obere Drau is congruous with the Natura 2000 area of Obere Drau (AT2114000) and essentially occupies the top of the river as well as selected feeder streams as well as areas in the vicinity of the river. The area of the Upper Drau extends in the west on the Carinthian land side from the border to East Tyrol near Oberdrauburg to the Draustau of the power plant Paternion in the east (approx. 7 km southeast of Spittal an der Drau). It occupies a total area of 1030 ha and covers a length of about 70 km on parts of the districts Spittal an der Drau and Villach-Land, respectively. on parts of the municipalities Oberdrauburg, Irschen, Dellach im Drautal, Berg im Drautal, Greifenburg, Steinfeld, Kleblach-Lind, Sachsenburg, Lurnfeld, Lendorf, Baldramsdorf, Spittal an der Drau, Stockenboi.

The authorization to submit this notification was signed by the Federal President on 21 February 2014 and countersigned by the Federal Chancellor; the above-mentioned area was added to the list of "Wetlands of International Importance" by 6 May 2014. is included.
