NAVAL BASES Decree 1360/98 Authorize the Argentine Navy to enable a Naval Base at the facilities given by the province of Santa Cruz in the Port of Caleta Paula. Bs. As., 24/11/98 B.O: 27/11/98

I am informed by the Chief of the General MAJOR STATE of the ARMADA, as proposed by the Minister of Defence, and

CONSIDERING:

That the General MAJOR STATE OF THE ARMED, in the framework of Law No. 24,948 of the Restructuring of the Armed Forces, is carrying out a process of rationalization, materialized in a profound reorganization, aimed at achieving a better use and increase of its operational capacities.

That the basic functions of ARMADA ARGENTINA are to exercise the Control of the Sea and the Projection of Naval Forces in the maritime spaces of jurisdiction and national interest.

That, for a more efficient discharge of these basic functions, it is necessary to have bases and apostolates on the maritime coast from where the use of the means is enhanced.

It is of interest to the province of SANTA CRUZ the creation of a development pole in the vicinity of the city of CALETA OLIVIA, and within this context the construction of a naval settlement in the port of CALETA PAULA.

That this project has materialized in a Framework Convention signed between ARMADA ARGENTINA and the province of SANTA CRUZ on 12 March 1996, which established the characteristics of port infrastructure and facilities that will have that naval settlement and the conditions of the transfer of the corresponding premises by the Provincial Government in question.

That the NATIONAL EXECUTIVE POWER is empowered to dictate this measure by Article 99, paragraphs 1, 12 and 14 of the NATIONAL CONSTITUTION.

Therefore,

THE PRESIDENT OF THE ARGENTINA NATION

RIGHT:

Article 1- Authorize the ARGENTINA ARMADA to enable a Naval Base at the facilities assigned by the province of SANTA CRUZ to the Port of CALETA PAULA, from the completion of the works specified in the Framework Convention signed between the two jurisdictions, to ratified by the Resolution of the Ministry of Defence N° 992/98, subject to the conditions established in the same.

Art. 2°- Please refer to the JEFE of the General MAJOR STATE of the ARMADA to carry out the internal reorganization necessary for the operationalization of the aforementioned Naval Base.
