Decree 1339/97

Trust a National Commission1 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the aforementioned Organization. Designanse members, with an honorary character.

VISTO Resolution 1366/96, adopted by the XXVI General Assembly of the Organization of American States (O.E.A.) inviting States members of the Organization, as they wish, to establish and implement national commissions that promote local activities with the widest possible participation, to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Organization of American States, to be held in 1998,

CONSIDERING:

That the Charter of the O.E.A. was signed in the city of Bogotá, REPUBLIC OF COLOMBIA, in 1948 and entered into force on 13 December 1951.

That the American States decided to create the Organization to achieve an order of peace and justice, to foster their solidarity, to strengthen their collaboration and to defend their sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.

That the profound changes in the Hemisphere in the recent past have transformed the purpose of the O.E.A. Charter on the need to promote representative democracy, into a reality that is constantly consolidated.

That the ARGENTINA REPUBLIC has played an active role in the O.E.A. since its creation, always bearing in mind its regional importance.

That the present measure is in use of the emerging powers of article 99, paragraph 1, of the National Constitution.

Therefore,

THE PRESIDENT OF THE ARGENTINA NATION

RIGHT:

Article 1Consider a NATIONAL COMMISSION to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the Organization of American States, which will be presided by the President of the Nation on an honorary basis.

Art. 2o-Members of the Commission, on an honorary basis, are elected to the Chief of Staff of Ministers and to the Ministers of the National Executive.

Art. 3o-The Ministries of the Interior and Justice shall invite the Presidents of both Chambers of the Congress of the Nation and the Governors of the Provinces, as well as the President of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation to integrate the Commission on an honorary basis.

Art. 4o-Expenditures for compliance with this decree shall be charged to the specific budget line for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the year 1998.
