DECEMBER No. 1,931

Bs. As., 2/8/83
VISTO the expendant No. 5819-V-1983, of the registration of the National Road Authority by which the propitiated Agency is designated to National Route No. 3, from the City of Bahía Blanca to the Sud, (progressive Km. 718.83), with the name of Commander Luis Piedra Buena; and
CONSIDERING:
That this management responds to that initiated in the same sense by the living forces and the inhabitants of the Patagonian Region of our country, and interprets the need to pay just tribute to such an illustrious Argentine marine.
That this is because he devoted his entire life to the claim of national rights on the southern lands to which his knowledge contributed greatly with his explorations of the Patagonian rivers, seas and islands, including the Strait of Magellan, which resulted in the National Government entrusting him in 1864 the degree of Honorary Captain of the Argentine Navy and later granted him the dispatch of Commander of the same ship.
It is also of little importance that the work it carried out in the rescue of countless shipwrecks, for which reason it was the subject of numerous distinctions by Governments of other nations.
That for the reasons set forth and given that the sesquicentennial of the birth and the centenary of the death of such a precious fellow citizen is fulfilled in the current year, it is considered appropriate to designate with its name the sector of National Route No. 3, which takes place in the area where it deployed its activities and is a custodian of our territorial sovereignty.
Therefore,
THE PRESIDENT OF THE ARGENTINA NATION
