VIRAL HEPATITIS PROGRAM — STUDY

AN ACT providing for the establishment of a viral hepatitis program and study.

Be It Enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Iowa:

Section 1. NEW SECTION. 135.20A VIRAL HEPATITIS PROGRAM—VACCINATIONS AND TESTING — STUDY. 1. If sufficient funds are appropriated by the general assembly, the department shall estab-

lish and administer a viral hepatitis program. The goal of the program shall be to distribute information to citizens of this state who are at an increased risk for exposure to viral hepatitis regarding thehigher incidenceof hepatitisC exposure and infection among thesepopulations, the dangers presented by the disease, and contacts for additional information and referrals. The program shall also make available hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccinations, and hepatitis C testing. 2. The department shall establish by rule a list of individuals by category who are at in-

creased risk for viral hepatitis exposure. The list shall be consistent with recommendations developed by the centers for disease control, and shall be developed in consultation with the Iowa viral hepatitis task force. The department shall also establish by rule what information is to be distributed and the form and manner of distribution. The rules shall also establish a vaccination and testingprogram, to be coordinated by the department through local health de- partments and clinics. 3. The department shall conduct a study to provide an epidemiological profile of hepatitis

Cand to assess its current and future impact on the state. Thedepartment shall submit a report to themembers of the general assembly by January 1, 2008, regarding the results of the study, and shall include a status report regarding the development and distribution of viral hepatitis information, and the results of the vaccination and testing program.

Be It Enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Iowa:

Section 1. Section 239B.17, subsection 2, paragraph d, Code 2005, is amended to read as follows: d. Incentives, opportunities, services, and other benefits to aid applicants and participants,

which may include but is1 not limited to financial education.
