The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 172(2) of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994(1), hereby makes the following Order:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 (Commencement No. 4) Order 1995.

2.  Section 53 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 (Expenses in criminal appeals in Northern Ireland Court of Appeal) shall come into force on 2 February 1995.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order, the fourth Commencement Order to be made in respect of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, brings into force on 2 February 1995 amendments to the Criminal Appeal (Northern Ireland) Act 1980 (c. 47). The amendments provide for a formal review of the assessment by the Master (Taxing Office) of the expenses allowed to a solicitor or counsel in criminal proceedings in the Court of Appeal and allows for an appeal by the solicitor or counsel or the Lord Chancellor to the High Court against a decision of the Master (Taxing Office) on such a review.
