PROBATION
The Combined Areas (West Yorkshire) Order 1995

Coming into force in accordance with article 1

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 2 of the Probation Service Act 1993(1), and after the consultation required by that section, hereby makes the following Order:

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Combined Probation Areas (West Yorkshire) Order 1995.

(2) This Order shall come into force on 1st April 1996 save that, for the purpose of making appointments to the probation committee for the West Yorkshire Probation Area to take effect on that date, this Order shall come into force forthwith.

2.  That part of Schedule 2 to the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986(2) which relates to the West Yorkshire Probation Area(3) shall be amended by substituting in column 3—

(a)“1” for “3” in the entries in respect of the petty sessions areas of Batley and Dewsbury, Keighley, Pontefract and Wakefield;

(b)“3” for “6” in the entry in respect of the petty sessions area of Bradford;

(c)“2” for “5” in the entry in respect of the petty sessions area of Calderdale;

(d)“2” for “4” in the entry in respect of the petty sessions area of Huddersfield;

(e)“5” for “10” in the entry in respect of the petty sessions area of Leeds; and

(f)“1” for “2” in the entries in respect of the petty sessions areas of Pudsey and Otley, and Skyrack and Wetherby.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986 (S.I. 1986/1713) so as to reduce from forty-two to nineteen the number of justices appointed to the West Yorkshire Probation Committee. Ten of the eleven petty sessions areas will appoint fewer justices. Representation for the petty sessions area of Morley is unchanged.
