Coming into force in accordance with Article 1(2)
Whereas under section 17(1) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973(1) the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland on 10 June 1992 submitted to the Secretary of State a report on a review together with its proposals for a change of the electoral arrangements for the Central Region;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 17(2) and 233 of the said Act and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Central Region (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1993.

(2) This Order shall come into force on 5th May 1994 provided that for the purpose of all proceedings preliminary or relating to an election to be held on or after that day the Order shall come into force on 10th October 1993.

Interpretation

2.  In the Schedule to this Order —

(a)a reference to —

(i)an electoral division shall be construed as a reference to that electoral division as constituted in this Order;

(ii)a road, footpath, railway line, river, burn or canal shall, where the context so admits, be construed as the centre line of the feature concerned; and

(iii)the boundary or boundaries of a parish is to a line corresponding as nearly as may be to the line of the boundary or boundaries of the parish concerned as already published on Ordnance Survey Maps;

(b)the following abbreviations are used:—

“ED” for Electoral Division; and

“grid reference” for National Grid Reference as published on Ordnance Survey Maps;

Change of electoral arrangements

3.  The existing electoral divisions of Central Region shall be abolished and the said Region shall be divided into thirty-five electoral divisions having the names, contents and boundaries set forth in the Schedule to this Order.

4.  The boundaries of the electoral divisions constituted by this Order shall be defined and mered by Ordnance Survey.

Revocation

5.  Without prejudice to its continuing in effect for the purposes of defining the electoral divisions prior to the coming into force of this Order, the Central Region (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1977(2) is hereby revoked.

SCHEDULEDESCRIPTIONS OF BOUNDARIES OF ELECTORAL DIVISIONS FOR CENTRAL REGION

Electoral Division 1: Claremont

Electoral Division 4: Schawpark

Commencing on the northern boundary of ED 1 (Claremont) at the eastern boundary of ED 3 (Tullibody) at Blackmuir Wood; then northward along the eastern boundary of ED 3 to the B9140 road and along the boundary of ED 3 to the northern boundary of Alloa parish; then generally eastward and southward along the said parish boundary to the field boundary at grid reference NS 9058 9626; then westward along the said field boundary to and southward along the field boundary to the unclassified road from Marchglen to the A908 road; then southward along the said road to and eastward along the disused railway to grid reference NS 9228 9673; then southeastward in a straight line to the River Devon; then generally northeastward along the said river to the Regional boundary; then southward along the said boundary to the northern boundary of ED 2 (Forthbank); then generally southwestward and northwestward along the northern boundaries of EDs 2 and 1 to the point of commencement.

Commencing on the northern boundary of Central Region and Clackmannan District at the western boundary of Tillicoultry parish; then generally northeastward, southward, eastward and southwestward along the northern and eastern boundaries of the said region and district to the northern boundary of ED 4 (Schawpark); then generally westward, along the northern boundary of ED 4 to and generally northward along the western boundary of Tillicoultry parish to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 6: Ochil

Commencing on the western boundary of Clackmannan District at the northern boundary of ED 3 (Tullibody); then generally northward along the said boundary and northeastward along the northern boundary of Central Region and Clackmannan District to the western boundary of ED 5 (Devonvale); then generally southward along the said ED boundary to and generally westward along the northern boundaries of ED 4 (Schawpark) and ED 3 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 7: Wallace

Electoral Division 14: Bannockburn

Commencing on the southern boundary of Stirling District at the eastern boundary of ED 12 (Strathendrick); then generally northwestward along the said ED boundary to and generally northeastward along the southern boundaries of EDs 9 (Viewforth), 10 (St Ninians) and 7 (Wallace) to the western boundary of ED 13 (Carseland); then generally southeastward and southward along the western boundary of ED 13 to and generally westward along the southern boundary of Stirling District to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 15: Airthrey

Commencing on the eastern boundary of ED 7 (Wallace) at the northern boundary of ED 13 (Carseland); then generally northwestward along the northern boundary of ED 7 to the main Stirling-Perth railway line; then continuing generally northward along the said railway to a point due west of where the Wharry Burn joins the Allan Water; then eastward to the Wharry Burn and continuing northeastward and eastward along the said burn and the Old Wharry Burn to and generally southward along the eastern boundary of Stirling District to the northern boundary of ED 13; then generally westward along the northern boundary of ED 13 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 16: Dounebraes

Commencing on the northern boundary of Central Region and Stirling District at the eastern boundary of ED 11 (Queensland); then generally southeastward along the said regional and district boundary to and generally southward along the eastern boundary of Stirling District to the northern boundary of ED 15 (Airthrey); then generally westward and southwestward along the northern and western boundaries of ED 15 to and generally westward along the northern boundaries of EDs 7 (Wallace) and 8 (Castle) to the eastern boundary of ED 11; then generally northward and northeastward along the said ED boundary to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 17: Menteith

Commencing on the western boundary of Central Region and Stirling District on the northern boundary of ED 12 (Strathendrick); then northward along the said western boundary to the southern boundary of ED 11 (Queensland); then generally eastward and southeastward along the said boundary of ED 11 to the western boundary of ED 9 (Viewforth); then generally westward, southwestward, westward and southward along the said boundary of ED 9 to the northern boundary of ED 12; then generally westward and northwestward along the said boundary of ED 12 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 18: Callendar

This Order gives effect to proposals made by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland for a change to electoral arrangements for the Central Region (the Region) as described in the Schedule to the Central Region (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1977 (the 1977 Order).
The effect of the proposals is to divide the Region into 35 electoral divisions as described in the Schedule to the Order.
The 1977 Order is revoked by this Order.
